Interesting debate this one. Many of us in Australia already drink recycled sewage, just that they haven't told you about it. Sydney's original 19th century dams were in protected catchments. When Warragamba was built it collected water from rural runoffs almost all the way to the ACT plus sewage and urban runoff from Goulburn, Lithgow, Blue Mtns towns. Supply also contaminated by air pollution in Sydney which has led to Prospect being taken off line. But they still haven't roofed Potts Hill as far as I know. When I was on a Water Board committee years ago they served spring water at meetings. They wouldn't drink their own stuff - then the giardia etc. thing came along.

Maybe there's somewhere in Australia with pure water but the reality is most of us have been drinking treated stuff for years. We have a filter on the drinking water at home and use bottled elsewhere. Washing the dishes, doing the laundry, showering and watering the garden with recycled stuff probably isn't going to concern too many people. Its a dry continent. Get a water filter if it worries you.
