who has a trip computer in their e-series?

im considering wether to put one in my ef xr6.
are they accurate or does that depend on when my car was tuned last?
if my car wasnt optioned with one is it just plug and play or do i have to wire it up to my speedo and fuel regulator or anything stupid like that?
