one option not covered by Tim is if you can source a good deal on a Zetec from a dealer. My Zetec was $24,000 on road, brand new, choice of colour was limited but I got manual, tuned 2.0L engine, 16 inch rims, dual airbag,
abs, bit firmer suspension set up, power windows...(basically just check out the Zetec config).
My preference would definitely be for a Zetec, just a little bit more poke and you get the 2.0L in manual.
