There are still some decent police officers in S.A....
Had to go to the local shop this morning to grab a few items. Took the Fairmont. Coming back from the shops to my house there is this particularly delicious round-about. As I approached it I knocked the trans back into second, weaved through the round-about at a bit of a pace, then just squeezed the throttle and listened to the glorious sound of 5.0 litres for a bit. I was just backing off and about to return to the appropriate speed when a patrol car came around the bend the other way and looked straight at me. I glanced at my speedo, 83 in a 60. Shit! He hit the anchors hard and started a three point turn so I just pulled over and got out to wait for him. No point getting into more poo. He jumped out his patrol and looked at my licence, then proceeded to give me a good dressing down. Told me I was a lucky bastard as he was going the other way and couldn't get a following speed on me and let me go with an Australia Day warning (His words!). Didn't even look at the Fairmont... thank God! I've always said if you don't smart mouth them and accept you've been caught the police can be bloody reasonable. If I was a ****er he could have defected my car and reported me for Due Care at a minimum I guess. Or... maybe It was just too hot outside to be writing tickets, we both left our motors running and air conds going LOL Darin.

Was having this exact discussion last nite with a few people. If you are reasonable to them and don't try and make excuses it makes their job easier (they have a lot more to do than listen to pathetic excuses) and maybe, just maybe you will either get off entirely or at least not have your car looked over for defectable 'offences'. On last Saturday night a 180sx was pulled over the side of the road just up from my house and you could see the owner getting all emotional about it. Sure enough he drove off with a nice yellow sticker on his window.. |

Treat them the way you would like to be treated if you were a cop. If you treat them nicely then they may let you off with a warning. Kick up a fuss and it'll only make it harder for the both of you, and im sure you will come off second best.

too true that.
ive only been pulled over a couple of times, and both times i was polite and calm, and i didnt bs the officers. ok so they defected my car and gave it a going over, but they couldve gotten me for alot worse, only a small fine and a cop shop defect. the lesson i learnt from that experience: make sure your numberplates arent rubbed when you buy a second hand vehicle and if ya nice to the police theyll be nice to you

Would he then have booked himself for leaving his running??? ;)
You have to be away from the car for that to apply too, we were standing between them.

Something similar happened to me on the way to work just prior to Christmas , except this bloke radared me at 111kph in an 80 zone ( Loss of licence ) I was late for work and had no excuse , but gave him the story when he asked why I was speeding .
He ended up writing a ticket for 7k's over and a $128 fine. "Have a nice day sir and be a little lighter on the go pedal in the future " What a good bloke |

Got that too a few months ago. Doing between 120 and 130 in a 100 zone on a deserted road about midnight. Drove past one of the rest stations and saw a commodore pulled over. Sure enough, did a u turn and pulled me over. Didnt try to crap on or anything, wrote me a ticket for under 15k's over.
Was a fair cop so i wasn't too angry. |

On my first ever pull over, i got a really nice couple of officers.. i was doing 80 in a 60 zone, but they wrote it as 16km so i didnt lose my licence. I was so thankful, they were really nice about it.

He is strick, but not unreasonable... which is good (if ur not the one getting busted)... He has had no reason to look even sideways at me so far!!!

Same thing happened to me twice In werribee, when I was there on a meet.
I'm always cooperative with police officers, and they both let me go with stern warnings. |

Too low, and possibly too loud. As EFFalcon said, if you **** them off they can find anything to defect.

At least in Mexico, if you leave the keys in the ignition without a licenced driver in the driver's seat you have left it unnattended. |

We had a cop in adelaide who would patrol the bay carpark (Glenelg). His favourite trick was taking the master cylinder cap off and finding a little bit of slime/grundge at the bottomm of the resevoir. "Brakes - Regency park defect" he would say and smile...
