Can the traction control in the focus be switched off??

Which Focus are you refering to?

LR VDC or XR5T or if the LS/LT/LV have it?

AFAIK all traction control systems can be turned off and on

If its anything like my Mazda 3, and from my brief test drive of the Focus, I think it is, then you will find TCS and DSC (if you have it) are linked and you will normally just have a 'DSC Off' button.

Actually there are some cars in which you don't have a choice (ie Toyota Aurion) but thankfully the Focus isn't one of them.

To the right of the rear window demister is the "ESP Off" button.

quite right, but if its anything like the XR5T system it will never TRULLY be turned off, just the Sensitivity ( i think thats the word) is extented. The XR5T guys have had issues, that when on the strip doing the burnout with the ESP off they broke things.

so who knows.
