Hi All
Looking at a hi stall, I,ve got same qusetion Will it drive normal? To get it off the line do I just hit the loud padel to see smoke? or brake as well? Will I lower the rwkw by doing this?

Hi mate,
It'll be a bit slower around town, and you probably will lose some rwkw. But if you want instant smoke and quicker off-the-line when you're nailing the accelerator, a stally will put a big grin on your face It's only slower below the flashpoint of the stally though, once you pass the flashpoint she gets up & goes like normal. Using the brakes always helps with keeping the smoke going, but a stally makes it far easier to light 'em up with an auto. |

Well, it depends how steep the hill is :P
Basically the stally will slip until you reach the flashpoint. This point (and the degree of slippage) can change depending on the road gradient, throttle position and the grunt the motor puts out. For a typical hilly incline mine will slip to around 2500rpm under light throttle and cruise up the hill. For a gentle takeoff from the lights, it'll slip to around 2200rpm and I'll cruise slowly away. For a commodore bashing, it'll take off at around 3000rpm and then 200m later the VN will perform the mandatory Loser Flyby <tm>. I've found that with my stally, cruising at 100kph causes a minimal slip (50-100rpm?) above the standard RPM. Going up a hill, it slips a little more, to say 150rpm above the standard RPM. Cruising through the hills (uphill) towards Adelaide on a 40*C day might cause some concern with heat buildup in the box due to it constantly slipping, but for all other driving you shouldn't be concerned. |

Get one for sure! I did and I am very happy with it.
Really transforms the car in street traffic light and dragstrip action. No downsides if you don't go too high Above 3000rpm which is no good for a six. The std lock up clutch still works anyway so don't worry. Check the gallery and the workshop build for info on what it did for my car |

My hi-stall cost me $400ish, plus $200ish to fit. If you already have a trans cooler, expect to pay similar. If not, one of those JMM hi-stall kits (inc fitting a new trans cooler) would be the way to go if they still do those deals (hi-stall + trans cooler for $1k).
I'd edit first and then stall next though if you can't do both at once ;) |
