Thumbs up I need ideas please!

The Sourbastard is buying an XP Falcon Pimp Mobile as a project car, and i need your wildest ideas on what to do with it in regards to drive train.

Engine, Transmission, Differential. Forced induction types, whatever. This will be a major project for me for quite a few years, and id love to get some good ideas on what to drop into the beast to get it motivated.

Colour at the moment is light faded blue, not sure what colour to go with getting it resprayed. Interior is original, not sure what to do with that yet either. Chrome work is all intact, including "pursuit" badging. Its a gem.

If its pimp only, I'd throw in a 289/302 windsor, with a little cam but get it sounding reasonably loud

retrim the interior factory style but with leather in colour of your choice

Throw in some airbags

Get some retro rims and whitewall tyres

would be sweet

for pimpness:

a deep purple 2pac duco...usual chrome bits
an auto for crusing(C4)
want a bit of pik up-3.9:1 or somthing a more extream like 4.11:1 diff(spins wheels easy)
nice fat white walls-chrome 12slots with caps
twin exhaust
nothing too major with engine like old mate said a warm 289/302
leather interior
nice and low

Any part thats original and in good nick... sell.
Customise the lot!
You could do a fair bit of wheelin'dealin with the "white socks pulled up to the knee car restoring type", you say good chrome work if you were to say mould the bumpers into the body you wouldnt wanna wreck good original chrome, so you'd swap plus cash with the white sox for a set of bumpers that had bad chrome coz they gunna be chopped up anyway...
Get that original interior and throw it, bench seats suck chuck in 4 buckets, mould some door trims to match the new full lenght centre consol(which forms into part of the subbox...)mod a dash from a late model car like a EL-BA whatever!
Pay a visit to "hopper stoppers" for brakes/suspension, why hell go the full way chop up a BA for its IRS and diff.
For motor my prefrence would be keep it a six, just not the old boat anchor thats in it now. An EL-BA 6 would go good in such a light car.

Have fun it what its about, you dont have to spend massive dollars to gain a different ride.

well my choice would be an AU 302 windsor, for ease of fitting, air bags, 17" AU3 T3 mags, twin 3" exhausts, or maybe better idea - get wrecked AU3 T3 and transplant engine, gearbox, diff, brakes, wheels. modernise outside eg colour code chrome, and more do good stuff...
im too tired forgot to press reply and couldnt be fukked typing anymore, maybe tomorow

If it's a pimp mobile you have to keep the bench seats. Must be auto, loud (V8 obviously) and have shag pile interior.

through a bit of research ive come to the following conclusions, so far.

Boss 302 Windsor apparently fits well into the XP, without having to do major modification to the cars structure. It also looks super sweet with quad webbers, so thats an option ill need to run past the bank :P This will probably be run on dedicated LPG.

The Diff I think will be a ford 9". Apparently it fits well and easily.

Tranmission, what auto to get???? 4 speed auto from a BA? :P

A Collapsible steering column from an XE apparently is a good fit.

The rear seat in the interior, has only been sat on 10 times... i think that will stay, and I might see if I can find a pair of bucket seats for the front that look the place. I dont want a set of recaro's or something from the starship enterprise. Its gotta have some class :P

Any ideas in regards to to the dash and instrument displays? That could use some work

4 webers will sound sensational, but will be a ***** to keep tuned. you could consider the option of a rotary :hihi:

maybe not.

i would keep the interior a matching colour to your body colour, with some highlights. i would chrome everything metal inside and have a decent sound system hidden as best you can. i wouldnt change too much inside though.

try something different and actually try and have it tasteful! matt black is not a good look. get a dark colour and keep teh chromework. keep the bright colours for the interior.

just don't mod it to much, you need to keep some of its original "style" in amongst the end result so it looks customised yet still tasteful. And I'd stick with and old V8 donk, purely for the old skool exhaust note and engine bay appearance!

I will say that the more modern gear you want to run in an XP the bigger the hit is going to be to your wallet!

If you want straight LPG, then i'd run a small (underbonnet) supercharged 331ci alloy headed windsor stroker for ease of fittment. If you want power then a 378ci Cleveland stroker and the same supercharger setup would get it moving for compareable cost.

The only 4 speed auto, that can run without a ECU controlling it, is the early model AOD's. They can be built to take the power but quite rare in AUS and not many people know how to work on them. I'd stick with a C10 as spending $1500+ on a ECU just to run a trans is a waste and the AOD's are just too hard to find!

9" would take whatever you wanted to throw at it. I'd go for a RRS front suspention and unassisted steering rack to bring your car's handling into up to scratch.

I'd keep the interior classic, but tasteful. Some of the digital intrument clusters they are running in the US are awesome though and would certainly stand out.

I also figured if i went with the latest and greatest engine install, id also have to meet the epa requirements for that engine i believe? Id rather avoid that hassle and go for an older engine.

I agree on the interior, and I'm going to endeavour on trying to keep it as classic as possible while not sacrificing practicality.

How about a nice AU xr8 motor, your going to have to get it engineered anyway so you may as well have something nice and refined. A good twin exhuast system should see it rumbling nicely. You should even be able to use the 4 speed auto if you keep the stock computer.
There was an XY or similar that had this done in an old street machine. The exterior was XY and the running gear and interior was all EL/AU xr8.

EFI Windsor for sure. Purple for sure.

And you can't have a pimp mobile without a velvet interior, zebra skin pattern is prefered.

well ive got some ideas,
ive had this car in my head for quite awhile now. and its a possibility for my next car (if/when i have the funds)

id start of with an XP Wagon
id have:
air bags, as low as i can get it.
deep metallic purple, or deep metallic green paint
faint airbrushed pinstripes on the side of the car
All white interior. basically original. but with modified bits & trims.
Big sound system, incorporated into the original trim style
WHite wall tyres (the wide whites)
Chrome flat hubcaps, or even moon discs

the engine would be a Turboed EA 6cyl (from EA s pac with MPFI - cheap engine to start with)
with the 5 speed from same car
9inch diff.
twin exhausts

i think that could be achieved on a reasonable budget........
and im seriously looking to do it myself

Without pushing my idea's on you it'd have to have big chrome wheel's read WIDE REARS like 325's, flash paint and a tought sounding bent 8. Let it be heard before it's seen.

Congrats, this is something i would love to do, so i guess i'll share with you my ultimate (although probably impossible) resto job:

1930's Ford pickup - the really oldschool round fat looking ones.
Barra 220 engine + BA Sequential Shift
Quad Exhaust A-la BA Utes as of late
Resprayed Fire Engine Red
Boyd Coddington 17/18's, or Weld Dragways
Full White leather interior
And the hardest bit - full BA dash.

As i said, more than likely not possible (or more trouble than its worth), but id love to do it.

Thats not a resto thats a full mod and while its not impossible will cost BIG dollars to achieve.
I would love to see it if you ever get done, hope you can.

You're right John, I guess it is more of a mod, but nonetheless it is something i would love to one day do.
Maybe when the BA's are a bit older, get a wrecked one and basically swap its running gear into the ute or something, im not sure what teh best way to go about it would be.
Still, plenty of time to research it!

That way you should'nt lose to much on a sell down the track, remember the wilder the mods the more the cost, which you probably will not recover in a sell.
You will have to cut and shut big mobs to fit wide rubber on the rear, about the only way that is cheaper is to flare the guards and even that might not look good.
If memory serves me the widest you can fit without any body work is 6" at the rear otherwise it binds up on subframe/springs etc.
Anyway whichever way you go good luck.
