Default Whats worth it?

just wondering fellas i was looking at a standard xr6 before due to licensing issues but thats not of a concern anymore so thinking about a xr8 would love a xr6 turbo but they are to expensive and dotn wanna get finance.

Question - Is the Au model good? ive been told so many bad storys of people that work in the car industry........i want to get teh BA shape + but its pretty expensive im looking at spending around 10k. Thing is i have a EL currently and the inside of it and the AU is identical while the BA+ shape are alot better and can add tacos etc.

Nah mate, the AU models are no good at all. You'd be better off getting a $10K BA for sure, and throw in at least 2 monster tachos, plus a suite of neons etc.

/sarcasm.

Im bias but AU's are a good car i havent had any problems with it.
IMO i actually like the interior better on the AU than BA, the AU has a smooth vinyl like material where the BA has a textured type plastic. There are various gauge pod's going round now for the AU so installing gauges isnt much of an issue if thats what you had in mind.
Is doing some work to your EL not an option?

10K will get you a lot of AU.

Did anybody tell you about the rust issues in the BA-BF yet? I checked my AU in the same spots they were talking about in this thread, and mine is absolutely fine and very minimal compared to the mess some of their cars are in.

Link to the thread is here.

Au's have their rust spots too, all cars have them. Au's get it around where the struts mount in the boot.

I wouldn't be taking advantage of whatever services these people you know in the "car industry" are providing as they obviously wouldn't know sh!t from clay.

Please tell them I said this.

PS: AU's have tacho's in them as do BA's.

Agreed. I've taken my sarcastic hat off, and replaced it with the serious one. While the BA may be newer, and newer is generally seen as better, there are enough ex-BA owners choosing to drive AUs as proof that the AU is a best built, and longer lasting car than the BA.

Get a BA (or really, a BF) with FACTORY warranty, and you are laughing, as all the stuff that goes wrong with them will be covered by factory warranty. If you buy one that is out of warranty, expect repair bills of potentially up to the purchase price. Examples are - soft rotors that tend top need machining every 15000km, throttle by wire failures (reasonable $$ to fix), autos that need rebuilding after 30,000km (one of "my" trusted auto trans guys is doing one a week at the moment, and replacing the BA 4 speeds with EL ones (cheap and easy to get, and last longer than the BA ones).

With an AU, as you've said, there's not a lot of difference between them and the AUs, but the AU front end is a lot better, and the car just rides and brakes better. Having said that, I have an NF and an EL at the moment, and the difference to the AUs I've owned is not that great.

For $10k, you will get a decent (maybe even Fairmont or Ghia) AU. The same money on a BA will get you a POS. The same money into your EL could see a really nice car too (new spray job, worked motor, tough transmission, nice rims and suspension, etc).

The both have seats, and a dash, and centre console, lol. Yes they look different, but even some of the switch gear is the same, and the dash layout is not too different (cluster, I mean).

Agreed! Similar layout, some common parts, some similar parts, but to call it identical is a bit of a stretch.

There's probably no greater a Ford fan than thou who who put their money where their mouth was and bought an AU.

They knew it was a reliable platform despite the contreversy the styling generated at the time.

Or the Ford fan who bought one new and still owns it!

Why would you want to add a taco to a car? What will it do?

To clear it up im thinkin by tacho's he means gauges.

Also id be thinking for about $10g you would only be looking at a series 1 au xr8 as a series 2/3 would be out of that price range.
If your keen on a 5litre id be looking more towards an AU fairmont etc.

so you know when to change gears of course.....why else do you need a Monsta Tacho in an Auto?
(thats sarcasm too).

good luck getting a decent AU XR8 for 10k as well.
good luck getting a BA XR8 for 15k.

you dont know much about cars, why not go and at least drive them and see if you even like an AU.
no point in buying something if it turns out you arent comfy or happy with it.

That's a lot for an EB. It would want to be both mechanically perfect and with a great body (especially with those kms), for that price.
