You can't use it on an AU - it is only suitable for B-Series ECUs. That is what CAPA themselves told me when I enquired a few months ago.

Both the flash tuners should work with AU's

But they don't - according to CAPA. I wanted to use the Flash 2 so I could do my own mapping - when I ordered one from CAPA they told me they couldn't take my order for one because they didn't suit an AU. However if you can get me one that will work I have the money right here and waiting to be spent.

They use the Flash tuner - not the Flash 2 tuner.

Capa do not have generic tunes to suit AU's.
In order for you to have a flash 2 to make your own adjustments, you will need a tune in it to act as a starting point, A tuner could supply you with a tune and a flash2 if you were prepared to pay them to tune your car. Then you could make your own adjustments

Generic tunes arent that bad. I knocked a clean .5 off my 1/4 with only a generic tune, Id love to see another mod which does that for $595, is easy to do, and converts back to stock in two minutes.

RDP are supplying the purchaser's choice of either Ford Flash "classic", Flash 2 or Livewire for the Raptor AU kits. One would hope that RDP had got the Flash 2 working with the AU before offering the option. I take it you're having problems Stealth? Just as well RDP are in Brisbane...

What is the problem you're having StealthAU? When I first got my "classic" flash box with generic tunes last year and tried it out, the LED's blinked an error code - lock error or similar. Turns out that CAPA hadn't unlocked the box before supplying it to the tuner. I had to post it to CAPA to be unlocked. Took about a week turnaround.
I was talking to Scott at CAPA only last week about the SCT Pro Racer tuning software, he said they had no plans to market it and suggested the Flash 2 as an alternative. I'm sure I told him I had an AU. I'd be giving Steve or Peter at RDP (Brisbane not Mackay) a call in the morning as they did the tuning. I said in another thread that I wouldn't be able to install my kit for a few weeks, but I'll be testing out the Flash 2 as soon as I get it.

CAPA's website often reminds me of the work of Bryce Courtenay... a grand work of fiction. The other day when I last looked they still had EA-AU Powerdyne kits listed. I tried to buy one last September and Justin told me they didn't do them anymore.
Who knows whether the Flash 2 works with the AU? I had one tuner tell me "yes no problems" the same day another tuner called SCT to check and said "no way". Admittedly that was also last September, maybe CAPA have done some development work since then. The only way we'll find out is to have a guinea pig or two, like StealthAU and me. This time next week we'll know for sure. I'd rather be a guinea pig than a gerbil BTW.

Sounds like exactly the same problem I had with the "classic" flash, as per the post you quoted. That "ECM unlock fail" rings a big bell. CAPA haven't unlocked it to be able to acquire and lock to your VIN. Their attention to detail could use a little work.
Make a quick call to Steve or Peter at RDP to confirm this. Sounds like you'll have to post the unit to CAPA, unless RDP have the ability to unlock it themselves. I've only seen one other AFF thread involving the Xcal2 / Flash 2 (same thing, different name) on an AU, here and none at all on Fordmods. I suspect we're at the bleeding edge but the Xcal2 is an obsolete product. It doesn't rate a mention on the SCT website. The Yanks are up to Xcal3 as the entry level product. [Gentle Dig]Now if you'd mentioned that error in your original post, you wouldn't have tossed and turned all night worrying about it...[/Gentle Dig]

Wasn't overly concerned, but thanks for answering my question. After trying to upload the tune I also tried reading codes, but it seemed that the flasher wouldn't talk to the ecu at all, which is what got me thinking. your link has answered my question, there are people using them on AU's, so all is sweet, wont have to settle for the old style flasher.

I had the same problem, it means CAPA have failed to unlock it. Return it to where you bought it, and get a replacement.

Im running one on my AU2 XR8 no problem. Its only useful if you have a laptop to datalogg all the data from the ECU. When i got mine custom tuned at BPT Motorsport they locked it so that the user couldnt make any adjustments. When i get my supercharger i will need to make some changes so i have to goto BPT and pick up the tune files then send the flash tuner and tunes to CAPA so that they can reset the tuner and load up the tunes without them being locked. If you want to use it for tuning yourself make sure that the tuner doesnt lock it. Also good to read sensor errors. If you need any more info i will be happy to let you know what you can and cant do with it.

Got my box of goodies from Mackay today and straight up I can see what's wrong with the flasher. On the back of the box there's a little sticker that says "CAN Vehicles", which means it will only talk to BA and later. Luckily Tim at Raptor has been talking to the tuner & he in turn has had words with CAPA. Turns out there is a different version of the Flash 2 that works with AU's. So those of us who've ordered Flash2 's with our Raptor kits just have to post the CAN bus units back in exchange for the one that speaks SCP / PWM or whatever the AU needs.

Got the replacement Flash2 this morning. It has a blue screen and the box has a sticker on the back that just says "9400". Plugged it in and straight away it's able to read/clear the DTC's and read the strategy version, and almost loaded the tune by accident!
So for the record, it's all good. Just have to organise a cheap s/h laptop to use in the car for datalogging. Oh and fit the SC of course :
