I was looking into mustang short shifters a while ago and I'm fairly certain that I read a build that of someone who did it in their AU, and the 'stang of the same era was compatible

had it in my WRX i rekn i had to move it 100mm to go from 2nd to 3rd |

I was under the impression that the difference was just that the american gear levers are more suited to their left seat driving position but the shifter should still fit?
