I got a quote from an exhaust shop for a set of extractors for $600 fitted. Is that a reasonable price? The competition series was about $50 more.

Yes it's a good price - well not good but not a rip off

Pacemaker 4499 on eBay $440 to $499 - buy from a shop a lil bit more - so $100 to fit then that's ok

4499's are better for a daily

Yeah well I could always buy it for cheaper and get them to fit it, but by buying from them if I ever have a problem with it I can just take it back to them without taking it off or anything.

Still need to get it registered, waiting for the TX5 to get sold. I'll update you guys when there is progress.

Thats what im running and the 4480s are ceramic coated wouldn't go anything else

Is it really worth it going second hand? What happens if something goes wrong (dunno cracks or something)?

I did have my pacemakers crack - they came with a 2 year warranty

Now i have another 2 years - they have the date stamped on them of when manufactured - make sure you get set with a recent date stamped on it (on the flange) as if you loose your reciept pacemaker replace based on that date

Yes - ask the seller if there are any holes or cracks in them - if he says no then buy them and if they do end up with holes or cracks straight after fitment get your money back

You will be $200 better off straight up - but you will have to paint them to make them pretty - maybe offer $200 pick up

I forgot to add - in his eBay add he says there are not old - ask him to read the month and year that is date stamped on the flange - if it's 08 or 09 then you know he is lying

They both perform better at certain points in the rev range relative to their design and yes the sound is different, 4499's tend to "drone" abit more

I'm not going 4480s because I have been told that they are for mild-heavy modified cars.

4480's are tuned length - each pipe from the Head to the Collector are the same length - thus the exhaust gases have the same distance to travel to the collector - this is better for higher rpm as they flow better

4499's are better for low rpm & torque - once you get in the higher rpm as the pipes are not the same length the exhaust gases tend to get restricted somewhat due to uneven flow

But in saying that I am not talking about 20 rwkw difference - maybe 5rwkw if that

I was selling a set of 4499s on here for $350 (negotiable) they were as new unused. I decided after getting some pretty low ball offers on here and other places (no offence to those that made offers but they were pratically brand new) that i would fit them to my car anyway. (the fact i also suspected a cracked stock manifold based on the sound in the engine bay spurred me on)

I have an off the shelf lukey catback on the car with a factory cat that was put in by the previous owner (car has 335k km so alot of stuff is replacement parts). The lukey is not a loud exhaust at all but thankfully that means it also does not drone. Extractors change the note very little but if anything have 'smoothed' it out a bit...before it was idling with a rougher note (this is before the cracked manifold mind you).

As for power well i've only driven it home from the exhaust place so so far not sure. I live in a pretty low speed suburb so it doesn't make a huge difference unless you get into it a bit. Revs out faster, sounds a bit better but if anything really low down torque response is a slight bit off (i'm talking 1500-2250rpm). In saying that it certainly doesn't make any less than stock at that point (just seems less since its better up high now) because you can still maintain 60-70km/hs up medium level inclines in top gear at 1500rpm with stupidly low throttle openings as has always been the case.

Once you get above about 2500rpm it just pulls so much more cleanly with more everywhere. I've only gone to 3750rpm so far and it was reving out much faster than before and it just keeps on pulling, whereas with the stock headers it would 'hit a wall' at 3250-3500rpm (which is where peak torque starts to peter out on a ef xr6). So if anything i think the 4499s are great at mid range its probably at 4500rpm plus that they start to lose out to the 4480s. Given i almost never rev that high (even when blatting on a windy road) i never went with the comps. Based on what i've seen so far with the 4499s and what i have read the 4480s would probably be even worse right down low for response which is why i never bought them in the first place.

Will do some more testing in coming days and see how it goes. At least it has freed it up a bit for when i really need some more grunt...and hasn't made it any worse for when i don't....

Swordsman88 - Thanks for the detailed feedback. I'm like you where I like my power early down low. It's just that if the competition series are truly "better", I might as well go with them because of the little price difference. But I'm getting mixed opinions at the moment. Nonetheless, whichever way I decide to go, I think it will be an excellent upgrade!

Nope won't fit without hub adapters

Eseries offset +0 to +6
AU BA BF FG offset +35

Easiest way to look for rims is search "pre+au" in eBay - search title & description - you should get some good hits

AU BA BF FG wheels are not a straight fit on eseries
