A mate just bought a 10/2001 AU XR8 with the 220 motor. I beleive this was un-officially known as the AU 2.5. It has the 220 motor, colour coded external mirror covers and the clear side repeater indicators. I think the 2.5's started in July 2001. Is that correct? A few other things I would like answered and I'm sure there is plenty out there that know!!
1. Is there any other thing the 2.5's had? 2. If the 2.5's started in July 2001, when did the AU 3's start? 3. When did AU 2 start production (I think it was January 2000) |

Another question too. What was done to the 220 motor over the 200 for the extra 20 kilowatts. Thanks fellas.

AU2 220s were a cost option until the AU3.
The 220 motor itself recieved ported & shaved heads, milder camshaft, larger throttle body, external engine oil cooler & larger injectors. |

AU II was released in Apr 2000
The XR8 220 (AU2.5) was introduced in May 2001. This included the body coloured mirrors and "SR" or "AU III" type side skirts for all XR sedans. The full "Tickford" body kit was still optional on XR8 220 but most were optioned with it. AU III released in Nov 2001 |

The clear side repeaters weren't a standard part on the AUII even with the 220 motor, but most have fitted them as they do look better.
