Default time for the new motor, finally....

i'm finally gonna start pulling the EF apart this sunday, ready for the new motor. For those of you that don't know, i picked up an AU2 XR8 motor late last year, intending to do a quick swap for the stock 5.0L thats in there already. the reason for the swap being that the stocky motor has 220,000ish k's on it and is getting near rebuild time. And the AU motor has GT40P heads and the Explorer manifold, is rated at 200kw's,and only 25,000ks on it. And the price of the AU motor is cheaper than a rebuild on the stocky.
Well, it was supposed to be........
then came the bigger MAF, the bigger TB, the hpc coated extractors, the head porting....etc etc lol
Oh, and the twin 2.25" custom exhaust..... And the 3.45LSD.
so a couple of grand later and a not-particularly-impressed wife, I'm finally getting into it.
I'm starting the process by removing the old exhaust, coz i want to annoy my neighbours by running the car with just the headers lol.
So does anyone want pics?

Hahaha!! Make sure you get a sound clip without the cat back ;)

Mmmm you lucky bugger. It sounds like the EF is going to be one helluva weapon! What did you pick up the AUII 5.0L for? (if you don't mind me asking)

Pics wouldn't hurt ;)

the AU motor was $1800 from a local late-model ford wrecker. it came minus everything lol. no TB, no injectors, no sensors etc. just a long block, with the manifold. got a pic somewhere....

Sweet. Lot of work to go though Phil.
Progress pics are always a good thing.

That car looks AWESOME. First time I've seen it (i think)
first time I've seen vents placed there also.

Looks like a great project.
Are you going to fit AU ECU, injectors, MAF and TB?

Or chip the EF comp and aftermarket parts?

Will be running EF ancileries/injectors/rail/ecu/wiring/dizzy.

The GTP's are being ported so should have a little more tickle than 200kw once its installed with extractors and twin system.

LOL there is sooo much de ja vu there it isnt funny.

i bought an XH XR8 long motor thats done 30,000km. (private sale - mistake!)
a week after getting it home i whipped the heads off to inspect and the bores have rust in them, indicating that it hadnt been sealed up properly when it had been stored.

just a little peeved off i was....:
so ive been buying go fast bits to heal the pain.... : :
cam, headders, cats, highstall are purchased already
pick up stroker crank tomorrow
then buy some rods, rings, bearings and gaskets and strip it down, repair the block, whack it together and burn some rubber

:the_finge :the_finge

my budget buy is turning expensive

Dan got vid of me driving around with no exhaust..... sounds sweeet.
now i just need someone to host it......any offers?

and thanks again to Barry "Mr Muscle" V, who actually did most of the work. Everytime we stopped work to talk shit, we'd turn around and Barry had pulled something else off lol. Cheers dude.

ok, a little more progress. Barry and Shane (Mr Landau came over on saturday, and we fitted the 'PBB'* heads and manifold to the freshly painted short-block. also did a lot of painting/cleaning of brackets and bits and pieces. Barry come over sunday morning, we did a bit more on the motor, then Barry went nuts with several cans of degreaser in the engine bay. Dan came over with his high-pressure cleaner, and Barry went nuts with that also. end result, a very clean engine bay. While Barry was bolting up the extractors, i replaced the front seal on the trans. its amazing how easy it is to do that when theres no motor in the way lol.
Barry cruised home, Dan went off to play in the final to end all finals of backyard cricket, or something like that, and i did a bit more cleaning. a bit later on, Dan came back, bringing with him a Hurst V-gate for my toploader (for my coupe), mmmmmm hurst....
anyways, we then lifted the motor, swung it over the engine bay, and dropped it in. as easy as that. only thing we had to do was remove the steering intermediate arm (i think thats what its called) to clear the extractors. Chris also dropped by during the evening to offer his assistance. heres a few pics, i'll take some tomorrow of the engine in the car, it was a bit to dark for the camera when we had finished.

If the origional 5.0+E7+HO's were anything to go by, with ported GT40P's+Explorer manafold and GT extractors, it should sound even better than when we took it out with just headers on before this venture ;)

heres a quick one i took this morning. it doesnt look like much, as it hasn't got the upper manifold/TB etc on, and i put the old rocker covers on so i didnt damage the new chrome ones when we dropped the motor in. it looks a lot better than what the photo's show lol.
And it was Barry that cleaned the engine bay, not me

How did you go with the EGR spacer and throttle cables on the AU throttlebody Phil? Were those gaskets I left you any good?
