Default ea-el dash interchangable, what about au?

will an au dash fit in an e series, or atleast ef/el?

my guess would be au would fit in ba, but, would need the center console to?
ie. where it mounts to the inside of the body...

noticed some ba dash in showroom and it had the ef/el style facade and im not saying its same, more "inspired".

for example...

au dash

it boils down to the old "anything's possible" but you have to fabricate every dash mounting, seat mounting etc, which is very different to putting an EF/L dash into an EA / ED

every mounting point is in a different spot. plus all the wiring is different...

HOWEVER i do believe, that if you got a crashed AU (or BA) fairmont, and got your ea-ed rolling shell and transfered EVERYTHING from the crashed car into the Eseries, it would be possible to do the conversion and have everything talk to everything...

what i guess im trying to say is dont try to do the conversion by halves, otherwise you'd have problems with electronics not "communicating" with each other

well..you asked...

i was just saying exactly how involved it would be to do.......

you'd just about have to fit the AU or BA engine as well to get it to be 100% right....

hmmm... i think ive seen that au dash somewhere before...:P(looks familiar:P)

i think that the au into ba should work
i raised the topic about au dash into ea on the other forums (back in the day) i remember it was plausible but would need some work, i might measure my AU dash up against my EA's dash and see if it would go in

wouldn't be bad if i chucked an au dash in the ol EA

also, i do believe the doortrims would come VERY close to fitting.... obviously you'd have to make new holes for bolting them in but i believe they'd fit the shape of the doors prettmuch ok

but the au trims fit in a different way

they dont come out with the rubber area around the glass and arent hard as to put back in

they sort of just pull off horizontally leaving the rubber behind, so something would need to be sorted in that domain for ea-el

also if i remember correctly the door opening latch mechanism works differently to an ea aswell

but wouldnt be a bad idea for someone to have a go at this idea, i think i might

It would indeed be unique, but you'd have to be really sure you wanted to do it before embarking on a dash fiddling project.

Ok, it's not so bad for a person who does that sort of thing regularly. But for your regular bloke, pulling the dash to bits and doing things such as fixing the blend door or recirc door mechanism is a very major pain in the *** :MrT_anim: , LET ALONE retrofitting a dash in one of these cars. Thats going to be one hairy bugger of a job! I reckon the time could be much better spent on something else on the car...

In terms of the nicest dashs, I reckon the EL would have to be the pick of the bunch. Only because I'm not into the retro radioshack style audio knobs in the BA's. I do like the functionality of the BA's but for the moment, we are talking looks. The EL is simple, contoured, and I like the red futura badge on the passenger's side. Also, you can actually see the clock (where fitted <- great phrase). Unlike in the AU.

AU and BA dashes don't look like they would fit, something about door trims and dash that leave a big gap I think, was making a comparison in my mates BA with some AU stuff and just looked a bit weird and outta place.

Wayne is 100% right about the electronics side of things. The BA system for example has completely different electronics to every other Falcon, and EVERYTHING in the car is pretty much interconnected. Not only that but the CD player unit for a BA is several grands worth.
