Have so much rust in the Petrol tank that the filter is clogging up nigh on weekly.
Anyone able to share advice on how to resolve. Can you clean out the rust? IF so how? Do you have to buy a new Tank? If so where Any other advice? Thanks in advance. |

You shouldn't have any rust in the tank, being plastic and all.

What car?
Buying a tank from the wreckers or something would be the cheapest and easiest option.

XD sedans had plastic fuel tanks, they were the first passenger cars in the world with them. But XD-ED [and quite possibly later models too] all use steel tanks. I think its a bit unusual a fuel tank has rusted in an E-series though.
eddiecafe: If the fuel filters clogging up weekly, does that mean you're replacing it weekly?

whats the fuel filter look like??
u sure its not just a discolordfilter .. and maybe ur fuel pump is on its way out? like are u just banging it to get the car started? and whenu say filter are u talkin about the filter in the tank on the bottom of the pump? or the inline filter after the pump and before the engine? |

Its the Inline Filter.
The Pump in the Tank is fine, no probs with that. Symptoms is the engine wont rev up, splutters etc. Max speed is limited to 5kmph The fuel delivery on the Engine side of the Inline filter is low, about half to .75 of what it should be. Replace Inline filter, bang on spec. Backflush/Drain the old filter and Rust comes out. Enough to stain the driveway. Also rust in the Filler neck. Looks like I will have to dig around in the Filler to see if something has been put down there and/or remove the Tank. |

ive had that trouble befor. i too thought that i had rust in my petrol tank.
after draining it, it turned out to be mud mixed with gravel dust. maybe your car has a build up of the same. has your car had a history of being owned in the country??? |
