Hi I have an ea stationwagon with the same problem and my mechanic said that if the gas is very low than the clutch wont engage to protect the compresser. Mine is in today getting fixed so I will let you know what they ended up doing and how much it cost. I find that the ea is not expensive to fix because they are a dime a dozen and its easy to get second hand parts and very cheap prices. But thats just what I have found...I haven't owned mine very long but dad has had his for years.

Hi well my a/c is now fixed. It cost under $200 and it was several small leaks but nothing serious, which they were able to fix and then they re-gassed it. I am over joyed that there is nothing wrong with the clutch or compressor. So it would seem my mechanic was right. I hope that's all that is wrong with your system.

Just pray your evaporator doesn't need replacing, they have to take the whole front dash out to get to it. I basically have an entirely new A/C system in my EB which cost me about $850 including 4 re-gassings as we attempted to fix it through trial and error and eventually found the evap to be the problem. (Actually each item we replaced was stuffed, so we had to put in new parts for the entire system)
