Default MPFI conversion vs CBF factor?

Ive found a cheap EA 5 speed. I might make a good run around car but its CFI :(

When someone does a MPI conversion does the car run properly afterwards or is there gonna be something that doesnt work properly after the conversion? Flat spots etc?

Plans would be to convert it to MPI, put in a cam, extractors, exhaust and an LSD and nitrous for racing if the torana isnt working.

If the MPI conversion is going to give me hassles I wont bother.

Thanks
Dan

keep it CFi put it on gas, have ac heap run around and it wont matter mpfi or cfi on gas really.

From what I have seen MPFI conversion go well, or terribly bad, swapping ALL the looms is the best bet for a clean conversion.

I dont want to go LPG. The gas install would be worth 5 times as much as the car. I want cheap cheap cheap mods only :P

Plus I want to play with it using nitrous. LPG and nitrous dont work.

Hmm swapping all the looms sounds like a big job :(

Less then $100 gets a FULL set of looms at the wreckers and then swap the lot and know that the wiring is all correct.

Spope and Initial D have both done the full loom swap (although to get smartlock) same effort for a different reason at the end of the day.

Umm no! 1 turbo car is enough for now.

This will be the economical tow car not the race car.

The car is $200 btw. Basic CFI GL 5 speed. Im thinking clean it up a bit, ghia seats or my SAAS seats that havent got a home, a bit of paint, superlows, MPI conversion, cat back exhaust and cam. Should come in pretty cheap, look okay and be good to tow with.

I cant turbo everything I own :P. Unless I can do it and still retain some kind of economy there isnt much point. It would be handy for towing but then I have to worry about legalities, breaking T5's all the time etc etc.

Have a think about that statement!

I wonder if I could fit a T25 on my lawnmower...

How tidy is the EA?, maybe strip it for all the good parts and find an MPFI Ghia or something?

Hmm on second thoughts, a nice BA turbo, 7 psi, a second row of injectors, stock timing and a microfueler would work alright :P

How many T5's have you broken John?

Its not too bad, not worth wrecking as its a GL but with a bit of degreaser it would turn up okay. Its apparantly the sons car but its been sitting in the driveway for too long and the mum wants it gone. Its good for $200! :P

Ill take it for a spin on the weekend. It runs, the engine looks like your everyday E series in terms of cleanliness. The driver door lock is busted. Other than that it seemed okay minus the cobwebs.

If you have all the parts and it's a series 1 EA, then MPFI conversion = easy.
It's an issue with series 2 because of the twin tps - that's where mine was dodgy because I piggybacked the tps sensors.

But, if the car is 5 speed and only $200, what have you got to lose? Even if the rest of the car was trashed, you could sell the 5 speed conversion for more than that!
I'd vote just keeping it stock, though, and it will likely be quicker than a MPFI auto anyhow.

Hmm its series 1 I think. Non colour coded bumpers and old style door locks.

Ill get it I think.

Had anyone run nitrous on a CFI EA before :P

Is it just a case of swapping the ECU, loom manifold and injectors for the mpfi conversion??

MPI conversions are easy Dan....me n Sunny will give ya a hand, were pro's mate :P You could probably get all the ИИИИ from pick a part pretty cheap. It's just manifold, loom, ECU, fuel pump and dizzy. If you get all the stuff we could have the MPI and NOS installed in a day.

Awesome! It sounds all too easy. Ill bring the degreaser

The car probably doesnt even run :P

Ill get Dad to negotiate a cheaper price tonight if he has time to go around. It will be good to get the stereo gear out of my room and into something that moves.

Im all excited about getting an EA, I feel sick :P

Just because you fit a yurbo doesn't mean you will have a T5 distroyer! Set is up to be efficent. Good low down torque for towing and very low boost. You do know there is such a thing as low boost?

You have a point, the tricky (and possibly expensive) part would be to set the fuel system up so It didnt have to go through heaps of fuel. I havent seen an economical turbo falcon yet. Once I go to an aftermarket ECU its going to cost heaps in dyno time to get a decent cruise map sorted.

You could make it economical. For a daily I'd leave it on low boost with 200rwkw. Any more than that and it starts to get expensive (fuel system, ECU, clutch, etc).

Still enough go give most things a run and tow your car!

Then we wouldn't have to kick you off the forums for being a traitor either....!

Har Har... :P Ill have a think about the turbo thing but Ill do the mpi conversion, paint and superlows first.

Any suggestions how I could do the fuel system for 200rwkw and keep it economical? Extra injector and microfueler?

$400!! Thats cheap as chips!!

A conversion with a microfueler with a turbo like that would probably only cost a grand or so.

Sorry to hijack here, but say ive got an EA with the CFI, i also have an NA fairlaine with the full intake setup mpi, with ecu and everything...

Now, i have the bbm setup from an old ef motor, so what would i need to do to get this all on an EA with the old ИИИИty 3 speed and a cfi setup?

Yeh dan, turbo it too... get something with a small rear so it spools up really quick and gives you a really good towing torque curve... kinda like the turbo 4x4s
