Wellllllll no one probably noticed, but I haven't been on 'fordforums.com' for over a week. I left for Perth early on Boxing Day and spent eight nights there - basically drinking myself silly with my older brothers and site-seeing a little (ohhh damn the chicks over there!! ).
So I've been back in Melbourne for a little over two hours, and I'm already getting my "fix". Talk about a surprise!! What the hell is all this?!?! A new domain, a new forum. Tripping me out :P I've gotta say, in Perth there are sooo many bogan Holdens (seriously, not just having a dig) and a HEAP of those ugly Crewman things. Where are all the FORDS??? I saw probably three shit-hot ones... One comes to mind: a cobalt blue, ED XR8 Sprint... WITH... 18" T3 TS50 wheels Damn. I didn't even get a picture of it :( Anyway, I will stop crapping on and maybe my head will be clear in several hours to get around this big comotion... |

Welcome back Luke!
Just yesterday I was thinking if there was anyone left behind at the other forums. Then I remembered you said you were going to Perth for a while. I figured someone would've sent you an email or something for when you came back. I'm glad you found the place alright Ash |

Easy on the short-**** comment eh?! :P
I don't know if this has been covered, but have we lost ALL the data/info from the "E-Series General Discussion" that was on the former site? BTW, just about everything on my car is replaced LOL And now my alternator is giving me grief. Does anyone have experience with fitting a more powerful alternator on their EA-ED? I was hoping an auto-electrician could maybe mod an EL one to fit the ED without the need of a serpentine belt conversion. Cheers all |

the problem with the EL alternator is the belt slips on it.
Steve had real bad belt squeeel :P and yes, we've lot all our previous info. it can still be found in various places around FF.. (some of it anyway)

I've often wondered though, whether having thermofans would help (Steve had the clutch fan when he tried). Because the clutch fan is driven off the same belt as the alternator, it actually is loading up the belt as well. So if you didn't have a clutch fan, the overall load in the belt is less, making it less likely to squeal. Not sure if this would work in practice, though... |

Yeh I had to look at the eafalcon.com site to see where the beloved e-series section had gone. I know no one will probably want to answer, but I wonder that the reasons were behind the move away from the .com site?

Having thermos will make it worse as you will be pretty much making the alt work as hard as it can and therefore putting extra load on the belt.

Luke: Why not go for a serpentine conversion? That'll make it work. I gotta do that one day...
Someone correct me please, but isn't the EF alternator pulley a 6-ribbed one? And the EA one will either be V-belt if it's early or 3 ribs if it's late... so were you guys trying to run the EF pulley with an EA belt or had you changed it to an EA one? Just wondering. Oh, I got the email too... was a bit of a surprise then, but makes sense now. |
