Question Roof Lining

Im thinking about re trimming the roof lining with black suede. just wondering how hard it is to take the existing roof lining off. hows it held up there? i havent looked properly yet but i'd be good to get some pointers if anyones done something similar or at least taken it down.

cheers
braden

two questions:

1. not quite sure whats crushed suede? i dont know much bout materials!!

2. so if the roof lining is glued up on the roof dose that mean i'll have to glue it back up once i re trim it? if so what glue do i use and where do i get it from?

Answers...

1. Crushed suede is suede that is crushed and gives the look of it being crushed and crumbled togethere it looks quite impressing...

2. Yes you will most probally need to glue it back up there and Just go to peps Auto or your nearset Auto shop and ask them if they have any glue for roof appolstery...There is a name for it but I can't remember...

Hope I could be of some help...

Removing the roof lining is easy, just remove the plastic trim. Mostly clips however there are a few screws hidden in there in the corners. Remove the center light first, then the plastic and a few plugs and handles if fitted and it should drop on your head.

Yes, and yes.

Its a cardboard (crappy woodpulp type board) with sponge lined material stuck to it. The sponge part is glued to the board. They start to hangdown when the sponge deteriorates and the material falls away from the board.

Just dont pull the pillar moulds from the windscreen, not needed to, and usually breaks the lugs on them.

Picture 3 layers.

Theres the material you see (not foam).

then there is the thin layer of foam, which is glued to the material you see (The material is foam backed). These cant be seperated as far Ive seen. The foam deteriorates (crumbles) and thus the lining sags.

The foam is inturn glued to the board (until the foam crumbles).

Why would you do that? My thoughts would be the added weight of the suede would cause the original to sag earlier, they do commonly enough with just the material linings weight, and its light. As I said, the foam backing is the weakness (it just turns to dust over time), get rid of that.

Just pull the old lining and foam off, and start it from a blank board.
