ok just wondering what peoples thoughts are about pod filters and pannel filters.
for instance: 1. pod filters are better because... 2. pannel filters are better because... 3. dosent matter as they both do the same thing... pretty much what people think are better and why they think this. cheers braden

I got a K&N panel filter. Not the best $120 I've ever spent...

I've heard a lot of people recommend the pod filter over the panel, still keeping it in the airbox.
What I want to know is what other respectible brands for pod filters other than K&N? Theres gotta be decent stuff without the heavy price tag out there.

K&N and BMC are the 2 "decent" ones......... mine was a BMC from memory.
though i wouldnt waste your money.....spend it on something to actually give you some performance..... |

my mate just had a $30 pod filter, made the noise but i couldnt tell any/much difference when i trialled it on my car. iv still got the standard filter from the factory in my car. i was thinking of getting a k&n panel but im not sure its worth it.
so why is K&N and BMC so much better than the cheap brands? how do they differ and how do they give you better performance?!

They use cotton style filter membranes which are oiled. The potential problem with these are that droplets of oil can get sucked into the engine. Not really a big deal on the sixes, but the V8s have their MAF right behind the airbox, and oil that gets trapped on the hotwire in the MAF can potentially fubar it.
I don't understand paying $120 for a filter, when a paper filter can set you back ~$10. OK, so the K&N has a 1 million km warranty. Sif you'll drive 1,000,000 kms in your car though. And the price difference between the K&N and normal paper filter means that you might break even after ~100,000kms, or roughly 10 paper filters. But then there's the cleaning/oiling of the K&N filter, and I'm unsure about the costs of the cleaning products you use. |

I had a pod on my ef for a while, just after puting it on i loved it.
Bit better throttle response and a nice noise. But as others said you are sucking hot air into the engine. Iam gonna go panel filter next. |

Panel for me, Mainly because i dont like the look of pod filters and unless they are in an air box they draw in hot air and reduce performance and for the amount of effort to install a pod properly and for its very very little increase in performance might as well use a panel filter.

I would go with a POD but ONLY if you had an EF/EL airbox to put it in, otherwise like mentioned you are drawing in the hot air from the engine bay.

filters are (in most cases) purely a 'i know i've got one in there' type item. Pods will give a slightly different, more 'rushing' induction noise, but so will taking the snorkel off..
Some people will tell you you'll gain 5rwkw... which is basically a bunch of BS. Washable filters are good for one thing, longevity. Clean and re-lube then whack back in, they'll last for YEARS. I put a pod on the EL and it pinged like buggery. The EB is running a K&N panel, but was already in it when i bought the car. As others have said, spend money on something that is worth it. Having said that, the K&N that i put on the EL is still here, still brand spankers, only had it on for 10 minutes. The EL didn't like it coz it had MAF/airflow issues. Yours for $50 if you decide to swing that way.

pods sound wikd and if setup right can be very good but takes effort.. im seriously thinkin of makeing a full alloy heatshild and having a pod with my snorkel from my bonnet scoop feeding one side while the other will be from surrounding air but from what ive been told the panles are better for both falcons and commos as they take the air easier and respond better but dont sounds quiet as wikd...

although the pod dose look good out of the box, it might be best to put it in (if you can). Otherwise just get a panel filter.
Remember exposed pod's are illegal to. |

I have a K&N panel one in mine. I reckon a K&N pod filter in an EF-AU box with the 'EL Sequential' scoop will work very well.

so will a pod filter fit in and ef box? i know theres not enough room in the EB one. if it a straight conversion also or not? so do AU boxs fit too and allow enought room for a pod inside??

Yeah man, the pods fit in the ef/el box, u just gotta modify the intake pipe i think? to make the pod fit to the pipe, but then if u had the ef box, youd need the bbm and all the other stuff that goes with it. Correct me if I'm wrong though lol

I have a k&n panel in my car. I could feel the car breathe easier and it now has a better response. i am about to install a custom cold air induction so hopefully it should only get better. As for induction noise i get that with the panel filter, even more when the cai is finished

I used a K&N Panel filter in both the EF, AU & previously EL Falcon. I also used the pod filter in an EF & AU. I fitted the pod filter to the EF & tested it late afternoon.(very happy) The Simota pod was FAR better than the K&N panel. The next day in 30c + heat my wife(unbiased test bed) who didn't know I changed the filter complained, what have you done!(in tune with the car). I then put the pod inside the airbox & all was good. I can't say anything about induction noise though, I have never heard it. The throttle response was better but dont expect miracles. The Pod wins in my books from my experiences but only enclosed in the box. I hope this helps.
