Default so put ur hand up if ur loosing ur car!?

Tonko XR8 has just informed me on MSN that he is downgrading his stereo. y i ask? "hoon laws, if you get pulled over they turn it right up, if your stereo is capable of over 120db your boned, its not whether you play it that loud"
how do they measure it? "dB meter on the windscreen, only shows up above or below 120"
but cant u say no i dont want u to blow it? "nope don't think so"
so do u get defected or something? "nope car gets confiscated, and about $800 in fines"

can anyone please find the written law as this is the 1st i have heard of it!
i dont even drive with it up loud!

Even though I've got a decent head unit and speakers, I'm not running an amp so I should be safe... plus my car doesn't look like much of a hoon mobile

It never was and never will be a law. If you got your head out of your **** once and a while and go and speak to the police yes go and talk to them you would know that they can do that to you.
Now how do i know this because i work in that department of Vic Roads. If you want to know whats going on go and ask, they wont bite your head of. If there is one thing i hate that is some one who believes his own bull shiit. bj

I stand by what i said. I have read nearly all of your post on here, and it would seem to me you are always the victim never the course. Why don't you just grow up and act like an adult. the world does not owe you anything. You will never be seen as anything else other than a winger. :

:the_finge back to you mate... you wont make many friends reacting to peoples comments like that... i was the one that asked the dB question not Frost so you should probably apologise for your :the_finge to him. Also BJ gave you a good piece of advice, ASK THE BLOODY COPS!!
The reason i asked is because the threshold of pain for humans is 130dB so i find you reading of 135dB way to excessive for a system that cost less than $800. What did you use, a $20 k-mart tester or something.

Ya never know. But for arguments sake. Do you get fined/car confiscated because your car can do over 110 km/h? Same principle here, Id say its bogus. But as I said, ya never know in Victoria.

The written hoon law is "Excessive noise due to engine/stereo" and there is no "DB limit" its what the copper finds excessive

Taken from Justice.vic.gov.au Hoon Driving

They can't turn your stereo up, but they could claim it was excessive, then you have to prove it isnt, so if it's a quality setup you are doomed.

Cop can go jump if he thinks he is touching my stereo.

i doubt it is true.. not that i care i have no stereo.. but it would like them confiscating your car for doing a burnout can they take your car and test if it can speed or do skids and if it can take your car of you for hooning, i think not, just someone having a bit of fun with you i think.. I'd like to see it hold up in court.. police officers argument to judge "i turned it up on the side of the road it exceeded the db reading" judges reply "grow up moron"

It would more be like "This driver was producing excessive noise out of his vehical from what beleived to be "music" and under the current hoon laws gave us the right to confiscate his car and bring him here today"

Its 100% BS for the DB reading and turning you car up, but they can get you for having loud music.

But some cops will do what ever the stuff they like anyways.

i'm not fussed. they pull me over, i'll quickly turn off the sub from my headunit. if they open the boot and see it, its simply not hooked up. they cant confiscate your car for it, its just a fine, and if the cop is a tight ***, make you go to the epa and get it tested. i know this because it happened to my friend a few nights ago

Like any law, you have to actualy infringe it prior to being pinged for something, just because my car is capable of doing burnouts DOES NOT mean I'm gonna get a ticket or an impound, same deal for any type of noise polution.

Besides, you have to be doing something stupid to attract attention, like paint a sign on your forehead saying 'CANDI-DATE' or playing your system so loud you'll be hearing impared by the time you leave you're twenties.

I ride a Triumph Speed Triple with an insanely loud exhaust, never been pinged because I pick when and where to go hard, I don't cruise down target streets pulling wheelies or sitting on redline in first gear with a great big 'look at me'.

I truly have a hard time understanding how people believe this sort of rubbish, the difference between cops and cruisers is that their better organised, and know full well that when you get a bunch of blokes and their cars together there's gonna be a pi55ing competition, it's their game, they make the rules...

Any law particularly hoon laws where its at the discretion of the officer means that if u get a real a**hole cop then they can do whatever he/she wants and there's not much u can do about it! In the real world most cops are half reasonable, the stereo level law has been around for ages they will only pull u over for it if u sit near them in traffic with ya stereo on full bore! Just use ur brains and if u see a cop turn ur stereo down and u wont have a problem! Its only if u get pulled over for playing it too loud that they may Db test it! But they wont pull u over and confiscate ur car cos the stereo is capable of over 120Db. I wouldnt go downgrading my stereo cos of some exaggerated rumour!
