Default Tranmission Codes

I have recently bought a EF XR6 wich has W on the build plate for transmission.
Can someone tell me if the W is a factory fitted manual or not?

Next question, would someone be able to tell me where the ecu is and how I get to it, as I need to check if it is a manual or auto ecu in it.
