Out of the list, alpine definitely sound the best. However, I've voted other. Vote 1: Soundstream

Mate about to replace 2 12" alpine Type-S for a 12" type X... should be sweet

For headunits I reckon JVC make alright stuff if you're on a budget of less than $1000. Eventually I might upgrade the stereo in my Ghia

If given a bit more cash, i'd go the alpine head unit and some MB Quart speakers (have heard a couple of nice systems with them) for a reasonable system...

For the moment i'll stick to brands like Clarion, JBL and Kicker, as they're more in my price range (actually, they're not, but they're closer LOL).

u talkin about speakers or head units? the new kicker ss series speakers sound awesome best 6.5 splits i have heard in a long time even better with 8inch subs in the door aswell. but for head units you will have to go a long way to better pioneer for the money and alpine is way over rated if u ask me.

I've got a Clarion CD/MP3 player and 6" Clarion rear speakers. It is awesome. Now I just need to replace my front speakers!

i picked other, JVC. JVC decks have been quite reliable for me and there cost effective.
I recently picked up a KDAVX-1. Good if you want a DVD player, but dont want a motorised screen. Check it out on ebay. Black matches your dash

Man stuff that, pioneer is so extravaganza with the looks and everything, they've forgotton that sound systems should sound good. I was close to buyin that stuff when i first got my ED less than six months ago, just because it looked cool, than i was shown the alpine gear and it was amazing. I would put the best of alpine to the best of pioneer ANY DAY.

I suppose it just comes down to what you like. I don't go much on Alpine simply cos I don't like the brand or the headunits they have. There's nothing wrong with Alpine, I just prefer Pioneer. And to be honest the only reason I have pioneer gear is because the stocko speakers in my car where pioneer, which is why I stayed with them, and there's nothing wrong with the sound in my car.

But as of this minute, pioneer is winning heh

its all about how its setup, a response (cheapish, tho very good quality) setup could easily beat a most expensive Rockford in terms pf clarity and performance. my advise is research things like cancellation, optimum sub box size and spend time tuning your system for the best results. little things like having your head unit at 3/4 volume when tuning your amps helps.
