Default This look right?

I need a quick definite answer before I bolt up the bellhousing and everything, can someone tell me if the clutch fork is facing the right way:



Also, how do I route the clutch cable? Do I have to put a little bracket/guide somewhere?

To me that looks the wrong way around :S
We routed the cable accross the bottom beside the PS rack, and then up to and through the firewall... (it goes through that hole on the bellhousing to the left of the fork in that pic).

Did you change the bush? If not then the Fork is in wrong. :(

Clutch cable can only go one way. Different fittings on End.

Wrong way around, the end of the clutch cable goes through the hook on the end. The cable on mine runs along the bottom of the steering rack.

I have bad eyesight, but to me the doodad that comes out of the side of the bellhousing should be facing the other way, the prongs on that little frankfurt sized piece should face the front of the car, and the cable hooks in there and then goes through the hole at the front of the bellhousing.

Please correct me if i'm wrong people, i don't 100% remember and CBF looking for sure (sorry luke :P)

looks like ya allmost there luke. Sorry i couldn't give you a hand on saturday, i got caught up with other stuff.

Route the clutch cable over the top of the steering rack. I dunno how you got the fork in there like that ? have you got the throw out bearing attached to it ? Make sure you lightly grease the input shaft too so the bearing slides nice and smooth and doesn't dry out and become noisy.

Ahhh f@rk this whole thing. Now, the fork goes on the other way around, then the bearing, but what way does the bearing face? :

the bearing faces goes infront of the fork, this is what engages and dissengages the clutch. The bearing will click into the fork.

Have a look at this link, I remember when i did my conversion on the EA even after putting it all in I still didn't understand how it all worked. This explains it and has a couple of cool interactive diagrams. :P http://auto.howstuffworks.com/clutch1.htm

Honest, the workshop manual is hard to read. Come over and look at it yourself :P

Real clutches need hydraulics anyway.

Yep (correct me someone, i'd hate stuff Luke up). It should click into the clutch fork though... You'll know if it's the right way around, because the bearing will "click" into the fork when you press them together. You should be able to see little prongs and gaps where they line up (2 tiny prongs, 180* apart)


Is that bearing new? May as well replace it now Luke while you can ;)

Here is my dodgy diagram! (Bearing top, fork bottom)


Is that all I need to do? It doesn't seem very secure/tight. :

yeah it just kind of hooks on by those 2 bits, it will be kinda loose and be able to move thats fine.

edit: you should have the bearing attached properly to the clutch fork before you put the gearbox in

oh and good choice of clutch

clean that grease off the input spline, but leave the bit the bearing slides on geased up. You don't wanna get all that crud in ya new clutch.
