Default XH engine/trans combos

I am wanting a 5.0/manual XH ute with the standard front end, i.e. not XR8.

Does anyone know if Ford sold any of these?

Wikipedia is a bit vague about when the V8 started. The XG definitely didn't have a V8 option and it sort of seems that the V8 didn't arrive till the XH2 in October '97.

It would also seem that Ford only sold the V8/manual combo in XR8 guise and the only other V8 was the S ute but only with the auto box.

Anyone confirm this? I don't want to wait for a 5 speed, V8, non XR8 to turn up in the classifieds if it doesn't exist.

Cheers

Unfortunately the V8 S was only Auto I think, only manual option was the XR8, which are getting pretty hard to come by now days.

Cheers Scotty,

That's good to know. I have a 5 speed conversion in my EL Ghia that can go across to the ute when I get it.

Before, if I didn't find a XH XR8 I was thinking about a V8 S sleeper would have been an awesome project. Any plans for the ute?

Hey XR8_km. I missed your post. I just picked the ute up a few days ago. My plans are to strip my much loved EL Ghia and put the following on my XH2.
Vapour Injected LPG
T5 conversion
Bonnet and front bar off my Ghia if they'll fit
Twin light conversion
Fresh coat of N9 (both cars are N9 which is my all time favourite)
Fresh suspension
330mm front brake conversion
Camber/caster kit
EL GT steering wheel
New dash pad
Decent exhaust
Bench seat with tricky shift mechanism for the manual
Aussie made two piece steel rims so I can pick my own offset
... etc
