Default Ducted gas heating problem

Hi from my freezing home.
My ducted gas heat heater has been working fine up until yesterday I went to investigate before calling someone who will come and charge me a fortune. What I found was it all works as it should if the steel cover over the fan box is removed but once I put it back on while running there is a lot of suction and the fan stops blowing? What could cause this or should I listen to the wife and call someone?

Thanks
Tregs
