Back in the mid 90s' I was living and working in Alice Springs, and I used to regularly run back down to Pt Lincoln whenever I got the chance. I was in my trusty 2L TE Ghia coming south just after dark, somewhere near Marla and I came round a bend at about 130kph to see 2 cows standing on the road, one each side with their rumps facing each other.
There was enough of a gap between them straight up the middle of the road for me to pass between them so I started slowing and aimed between them; just as I got within about 30-40m and still doing about 80, suddenly a horse walked across the road immediately behind the cows. With both feet on the brakes and pulling on the steering wheel, I sailed between the 2 cows and missed the artz end of the horse by maybe a foot....maybe. (that's 305mm for all you lot under 45)................ I slowed down a bit after that.
