Default removing vct

Does anyone know whats involved in disabling vct, have been advised it can be done, the reason is to install a comp cam that runs with standard ecu from altered performance.the only other cam is jmm dev 5 which requires unichip etc.Are there any negatives in doing this?Am told vct works from 900rpm to 3500rpm,with a good cam this would be below the main power curve so I dont think would loose much if anything by disabling.Any thoughts would be greatly accepted.
