I think we can all agree that what Ford charges for what is essentially plastic brackets is pretty obscene. Someone should look at making replica brackets for the XR headlight setup.

The grille and the headlamps themselves are pretty cheap, it's just that you need something to mount them on.

I personally don't like your idea of using an existing GL style headlamp body, I reckon you should use your plastering skills to make up a replica XR headlamp mount. Plenty of people here would be interested in that I think.

its deffinately an interesting idea.
deffinately needs to be finished to get the full effect.
my guess is there is big problems with adjusting the lenses and possible legal problems?

Sorry mate, this screams dodgy and I wouldn't even think twice about failing it for a roadworthy. I bet it's blinding as hell to oncoming traffic.

The lenses are adjustable as originall , the old housing is used. like i said if u copy the driving light it beams out aok, also the cover does not get in way as u allow 5mm on covers .Look at twin light u will see what i mean. Legal problems i dont know the answer to that, but how many times have we seen cars with total different lights grilles so & so. but u have a valid point. :1syellow1

Like i said before it is only a trial, no it is not blinding as hell as the originall bulbs are used, I stood right back in my yard it was no stronger than the stock unit on right. u can buy aftermarket lights in place of torch inserts
but i understand your opinion.

silicone to mount torch inserts, ey...hmmmmmm.

also if the torch inserts are plastic reflectors, i dont see them lasting much more than a week with car bulbs inside....

Well done on the effort and detailed pics but what i don't understand is, You have a gt front bar, bonnet vents and scoop (plus, i assume other stuff i can't see) and you're going to do a dodgy headlight install.

I do look forward to the covers when they're done as all you'd need to do is improve the lights & bracket and it wont be so bad.

As a few other peeps have said already jedaarr, good onya for having a go. Lots of good $ spining/saving ideas have come from a bit of trial and error.
Keep at it

The reason i like the idea of using originall housing is to adjust beam,i have a few old lights to play with, trial & error, the next one i will gut it right out & make much improved brackets, aftermarket driving lights will be fitted. there would be people out there who could not afford $540-600 for twins if i can make a decent replica set for no more than say $120 thats a big saving & they must be well made.i thought the reflectors would be ok but u were right they distorted.

I have spent a bit dough on the car it has full gt bodykit and basic mods, but i like to have a go at something,if it does not work out i will buy twins.
once lights are mounted better- i can not see any problem i will post the cover very soon on housing. :

At this present time i have come up with a superior way to adjust & mount 10 cm lights using 100 ml sewerage pipe (as a housing) this is a1 to earlier trial. I will post pics by thursday, Due to many aftermarket suppliers of lights if u follow this trial u adapt the lights to new housing as u see fit.
