Hi people, was wondering if you could advise what to do if diff is really noisey and leaking oil from one side.The miss'us has been hassling me to fix this for ages.
The oil is not brake fluid. How much to recon the diff or is it better to simply replace it with a second hand one from the wreckers? Anyone got one for sale? I'm in Adelaide. Cheers Paul |

gday mate, i would check the oil level first. If it's leaking maybe it's got no oil left and that's why it's noisy. Buy some oil and top it up so the oil sits just at the base of the filler hole when the car is on level ground.
if that doesn't fix it, i'd just get another diff from the wreckers and swap it. Recon will be a fair bit eg over 500. |

What does a noisy diff sound like? Last week, a sound developed in the back left side and I'm trying to track down what it is. Wondered if it was something like this perhaps?

A noisy diff sounds like a grinding noise I believe.

yeh it will just go up and down in pitch with the speed of the car. like a constant 'zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz' noise from the rear end.

where exactly is it leaking,,if it's leaking behind the brakes just get the seals replaced and while your there get the bearings done as well,,unless the diff is damaged theres no need to replace it,,as has been said top it up,if the noise dissapears then just do as above,,cheaper..
