Default Advice required: AU I6 Idle and Transmission issues

On xmas day i did a trip to see my olds over The Arthurs Pass. The trip over was fine , but after descending and on the flat I pulled out to pass a slower car. It was then I found the trans when kicking down to second caused the car to surge and catch erratically.in third it was fine just no direct kickdown.

Further to this assuming both issues may be related I've noticed that if I'm stationary at lights and engage the aircon the car all but dies and fluctuates something shocking........And last but not least. last night when i started her my entire driveway was engulfed in a great cloud of blue oil smelling smoke.

The car has only just rolled over 90,000ks so are these problems par for the course or am I right in hearing the cash register in my head ringing up $$?

Sorry....are you talking about your AU2 Fairmont, and is it a 6 or an 8?

Just for the clarity of the question here!

G'day there,

no, thats not par for the course, you'll shoot snowmen lol! if you dont keep up maintanence on the them- what checks/fixes have you performed so far ie: oil level/ condition, iac (idle stepper on top of the throttle body)- rip it out, clean the soot out of it, lube & reset idle if need be, check transmission oil level & coolant level. It sounds like you have a couple of seperate issue's at the same time or the start of headgasket prob's. Suss the above & please get back to us.

cheers, Maka

Cheese, I would like to change this thread title to something a little more relevant. Please let me know what you would like the title to be.
