You may want to look at the Sumitomo HTRZ III's which, although quite cheap, are actually rated higher than some tyres costing twice the price by Tire-Rack. I had a set, and found them to be very grippy, and reasonably comfortable. Noise is quite acceptable too.

The tyres on my ST 170 are starting to get a little hard. Conti Sport Contact O/E's. You can hear them oscillating at highway speeds as if they are out of balance.
They have 45000k's on them, and the edges are now worn. Wheel alignment earlier on could have possibly saved them. They are a 4303 build date, so 5 years old. Looking at some GIII's if I can find them (being phased out) or the Adrenalin R001. Have enjoyed the GIII's on my XT Forester. |

The Goodyears on our LS Zetec only have about 24Ks on them and they hardly look worn at all. Tyre rotation and wheel alignment is very important to get good mileage out of tyres. My tyre guy did an alignment for us at 10K and said it was miles out. It also drove much better after the alignment. My neighbour got nearly 70Ks out of the factory set on his Mazda SP23 (unsure of the brand they were but same size as Focus Zetec) He replaced them with the Potenzas.

That is good advice - regular rotation and alignments keeps them nice and quiet as well as last longer. I still have the original tyres on after 70,000 km still not down to wear indicators but are now getting slightly noisy.
Interesting thread this one. |

The back tyres are stuffed...I wonder what the F#$%en dealer was doing when i told him to rotate the tyres on my previous service.
So i'm off for 2 new tyres on wednesday.... Still undersided which tyre i should get. Seems like all the brand have good tyres.maybe we should be asking which brand of tyres we should be staying away from.. I'm after safe tyres i.e wife and kids in the back. and quiet tyres. thanks mixo |

First choice - Adrenalines
Second choice - anything except the Falkens The $200 premium of the Adrenalines over the others is a good investment |

were all those tyres the correct load rating? Last time I looked around there weren't many choices that had high enough rating.

Toyos are decent, and hankook are too, unless you're driving it very hard you won't appreciate the adrenilins or the Pirellis (which aren't really that flash anyways...)

I've decided to go with hankook ventus v12 evo for 175 each.
I only have to do the 2 front ones. Let you know how i get on, if anyone interested. I would love to get into some of the name brands but they just to expensive right now for me. mixo p.s load rating 650 same as the goodyears Treadwear 280 Traction AA Temperance A not sure if that means anything, sure someone will explain it but they are same or better than goodyears(assuming theose figures mean anything) Last edited by mixo; 12-11-2008 at 09:38 AM. |

Don't worry mate, they're still decent tyres, and the $200 in your account will surely make you smile If you want it to handle, get some springs with your $200 Also, ideally you should always have 4 tyres of the same breed, but failing that, never swap from end to end (Always have the matching pair on the same axle)

i just got them on the front, moved the goodyears to the back. The tyre guy said i got another 5k on them, and i will change them over.
The car was way out of whack with its alignment, front and back.Should have taken some photos of the worn tyre, all metal down the inner edge... The missus swear blu she didn't hit any gutters! The car is already lowered. waiting to do some freeway running, see how quiet they are... So far so good, everything seems "normal" again... thanks Mixo |
