Just Car: $1300/yr, $21k agreed value with stroker, suspension, Brembos, stereo, rims. I'm 21.
Shannons wanted $2400 for $22k agreed value, couldn't believe the huge difference as they're both under the Suncorp banner. |

Yeap the more I deal with shannons the more I find its just one big marketing hype.
CGU were about the same as aami. Anyone tried those online only ones, or are they a bit dodge?

Tried the "Insurance for car enthusiasts" company once because I liked their salvage option, option of repairer, etc - 'consultant' did not know what a RS2000 was, referred to redbook valuation and then would only 'stretch' to 8k agreed on the RS until I sent photos for his "Ford specialist" to review, then begrudgingly increased to 10k with verbal quote.
Requested in writing and a product disclosure doc - received in mail two weeks later, reduced back to 8k at the premium quoted for 10k; still too ****ed off to pursue further at this point.... Now the rate quoted for a "rarely driven" ie less than 2 days per month, garaged, immobilised, low risk area was $450; Suncorp full comprehensive "daily driven" vehicle at 10k agreed value with same listed mods, but with a slightly less accomodating salvage option and more restrictive repairer listing comes in at $375.......... Got them to quote the AU Fairmont Ghia at the same time - market value same factory options was quoted at $475 vs Suncorp $420...... I really am keen on their advertised preferred repairer and salvage options, but if they can't recognise a main stream Australian production model, treat you like you are trying to pull a insurance rort, then can't get something so simple as a negotiated quote right, I have major reservations as to how smoothly things might go in the event of a claim Cheers James Edit: removed company name to comply with site guidelines Last edited by Jimmyd; 10-06-2010 at 12:13 PM. |

keep in mind, its known that the same company will blacklist you on the insurance database if they believe you were 'wreckless' in any of your accidents...
which makes it REALLY hard to get insurance. have heard this from multiple people, yet nothing personally. |

wow so aside from 1 poor 19 year old i appear to be paying the most for my insurance
maybe that says something about my post code 2760. 3 claims on the car in the last 5 years, NONE at fault- act of god (hail), someone backed into my car, and malicious damage, and one driver charge in the last 5 years :( it sucks to be under 25

01 Fairlane Sportsman, LPG is all CGU were interested in for mods and I pay by the month.
Agreed value $12530 60% no claims bonus 1 free windscreen a year $500 basic excess I'm 46 she's 37 $312.69 pa. Oh, and 1 free claim per year But we do have all our insurance through CGU; house, contents, landlords & cars. Bushbasher BTW, what would you have to do to use up a $30,000,000 liability cover short of plowing into a block of flats that then goes up in smoke? lol.

$1440 a year with RACV.
AU XR8 ute, usual mods, 31 year old no claims but no history either. Am looking at new cars - a new G6E or XR6T is less than $600 with AAMI... Must be all the traction control/lack of young idiots driving them at this stage. Am hoping the new Coyote won't be too dear - or do they automatically raise the premium for V8's... |

I am 20 and only have 3rd party on my 2002 manual wagon.
It is with RACV and it is $572?? a year with no listed mods. They have told me the mods i have fall withing there conditions and as vicroads didn't need the manual to be engineered they are fine with that. Looking at what some are paying i reckon maybe i should have a look around.

I got all interested and had a rather jaw dropping moment when a friend of mine who owns a nissan S13 (with mods) told me he only pays $1200 a year! Come on! AU's are a newer car, have more safety features etc, yet an import of all things, driven by a p-plater attracts LESS comp.... *implodes* |

Mine is nearly $150/month :(
All mods (inc stereo which nearly cost as much as the car, lol) Due to crappy postcode (my insurance went up by $1000 p.a with prev insurer when i moved! I then changed to justcar and have my current deal) Perhaps i will start looking for a better deal?

I'm in Adelaide. 2001 Forte, bog standard - $390 with SGIC, full no claims bonus and $400 excess. The premiums go up each year as the car ages; my 04 BA was always about $100pa cheaper than the AU2. It's cheaper to insure a newer car. My 2 year old Sonata V6 is around $280 for $16K cover, the 08 Getz 1.6 $230.
My kids cars are registered and insured in my name and they are listed drivers. Means the premiums are lower than if they insured them in their names, and they do build up no claims bonuses for each year they are listed. |
