What's your stress worth? I say the quickest and most painless way would be to pay up what you owe as of right now and pick your car up as is. Nothing more gets done to it, you've got a better car than you had before and you never have to see him again.
Yeah you could pick it up now and not pay him but if you believe in karma ... what goes around comes around. |

Why didn't you just fix the problems yourself with your own Dad's help?

Yep, just pay up and get out.
Like tearing of a bandaid, quick and clean. Won't hurt long and will be all over. |

You would be surprised how people can find you, even more so as time goes on and one person talks to another. As I said before, Its not a question of who’s right, its about getting on with your life with the least amount of damage and hang ons.

You should ask him to at least deduct what you paid in rego for the Pulsar from the amount owing.

If you feel hard done by, talk to the guy. If there has been stuff that has been bought see if it can be returned. Get those amounts taken off. You'll have some spares (on the newly removed / new replaced items) too. You may find it's a $1,000 which is hard to take, but sometimes lessons can be far more expensive. If you like him, then this may even save what could be a friendship. Just be up front about the situation and how you feel. Remain calm. Work out a solution.

You're in deep. You have a verbal contract.
Easiest way out is pay for what is owing on the car and take it back. |

He does not really know what his doing IMO . Get your car back ,give him the amount you wanted to spend and move on . Let him deal with the rest , he may be a good bloke but it will end up a money pit.

man up and go and talk to him. tell him what you said here. or give him the link to this thread.
personally, id pay him, say thanks for his time, have a nice life. backyarders always have a habit of burning one of the parties involved. if your old man is an ex mechanic why didnt you rope him into fixing it? |

I know if I ask my mechanic to fix something and they also do something else I didnt ask for, I wouldnt be paying for it (unless they have very good reason). |

Am I the only one wondering why a 10 year old car seams to have so many problems?
I thought my 2000 model Magna was a piece of crap and I only spent $800-900 on that in 2 years. Here you are spending $1000+ in one hit... well someone is spending it for your. It's pretty bad you had to pay rego for his car. Seriously pay him for work so far and leave. Fix the rest yourself or pay someone else to fix it. |

From what he has said about $600 of the $1000 didnt need to be spent as parts where fine. Mate I see you said your gunna pay just tell him you will give him what you can afford every pay and ask abot deducting the cost of the rego from what you owe. Good luck

my take on this is he's screwing you over big time as you stated you told him you just want those few things fixed and you also stated you told him you had already replaced the timing belt, waterpump and a few other things, ,but also i want to know why you have not said anything to him about changing parts that are already new, he cant be that stupid so obviously he's having a real go at you,
FFS how many times does this man have to slap you in the face for you to take the hint.now this is only my oppinion if you have actually told him what you told us here. reguards Nick
