Thanks stocko but doesn't really help me. I already had aftermarket headunit, speakers amps, wiring etc.

I would have thought that it would be a simple matter of "Front" RCA's to Alpine amp (same as previous hu).
I'll have to refer to the Alpine manual to see if I can change crossover settings (or whatever).

Yeah the radio and cd/mp3 would work but the brake wire had to grounded for the dvd side of things to work.

Seeing as you said only your tweeters were working I figured you must have premium sound. But seing as you don't, it should just be a matter of wiring it up as per the previous headunit. If you are sure no sound is comming from your mids it would have to be a problem with your crossovers, or the wiring coming from them to the mids. This might sound like a stupid question, but its not just a matter fo the settings on the headunit? As in the bass turned down and trebble cranked up? If all the speakers were working before and nothing has been touched from the rca's to the speakers, it has to be something to do with the head unit.

im not too good on all things electrical. im sure i could install this H/U no worries if/when i get one, but things like grounding, and where ive got no idea lol

For the time being I wrapped it around the hu earth connection.

I'm struggling to get the front speakers to work. The tweeters work ok but not the door speakers (rca's).

I fancy it's a setting in the menu but whilst the manual is quite comprehensive in some areas it's sadly lacking in others. Probably going to be quicker if I email them and get them to walk me through it.

There is no doubt that on face value this unit is good buying at around $300 give or take.
Obviously it will lack some of the features and quality of blackers' JVC but it's also less than a third of the price.

I'll hook up the hu speaker wires (no amp) tomorrow and have a listen for you through my rear stock speakers. I get the feeling that it will be quite ok.

Anyhoo, I'll email this crew and head off to bed for a further read of the dreaded manual ;)

im having trouble getting the headunit to slide all the way in..

i think its due to the 10000000000 wires comming out the back of it.. and the stupidly designed AU dash that has a big steel plate around the whole rear end of the headunit area so you cant get a hand up and pull everything out the way:@

the closest i got it was less than 1/4" from the top and all the way in at the bottom..
then the left channel decided it didnt want to work any more.. hmm
so have given up for the night and am heading to bed also..

damn wiring crapness!!

my unit is approx 160mm long
the biggest problem is that stupid metal bar that the unit sort of sits ontop of.. you have to push the unit upward at an angle to get over it AND make sure you dont pinch any wires underneath it

and yes i may modify that metal plate at the back if i cant get it in LOL

so let me get this straight, the DVD function of the hu won't work without the handbrake engaged? any way around this as i want one for when i drive down to alice springs and my partner/myself can watch a movie when i/she's not driving

There must be a difference in the dash's.... my unit is 190mm long from rear to front of screen and as you can see from the previous pic the top sits flush with the top edge of the hole. It just slides in and would probably slide in a further 10+mm..

Up to you whether or not you include the handbrake function. I don't know the road rules re dvd/tv but I would imagine that legally you'd be obliged to have the handbrake included in the equation.
When I was searching for info on whether the handbrake wire was 12v or earthed I came across quite a few posts regarding this issue. If you were to google "dvd disable brake" there are many posts stating how to get around it.
As I said in an earlier post mine is working for testing without the wire being connected to the handbrake.

Hey HLC, I hooked up my rear stocks (normally I have them faded off so had forgotten how ordinary they are, lol) and can repoprt the hu is quite impressive.
1/4 volume is plenty loud enough with car stationary so I took it up to 1/2 to impress the neighbours, lol.
Adjustment -bass, treble etc - is really easy with the touch screen but a decent set of speakers would help ;)
Again, for the price the hu is very good.

awesome!!!! so hopefully it sounds alright with my kenwood speakers (KFC-C5780ie's 5x7's which go alright i reckon), and if i dont like it/want a sub/amp shouldnt be too hard to wire it in!

I haven't had a real chance today to fiddle around with it but I had a good read of the manual last night and I just don't get it.
My setup is hu (rca) -> amp -> external crossovers -> mid/tweeters.

I'm by no means an expert at this stuff but it seems to me that if the tweeters work it means that the rca's work?

Happy for any comments/suggestions from those who have a cloo but other than that I'll plod along...

I'm not familiar with those but no doubt they're better than the stocks so you'll be happy. I really don't think you'll need a sub with this unit. It's 'sposed to be 4x65w, which could mean anything but I tell you straight it was the speakers that were letting it down.

i got mine in

turns out the wires were just not playing ball and were just mashing against the metal plate rather than doing what wires are good at and BENDING downward out the way..

after slicing my finger open on the cage she is in and working brilliantly!!

HLC i recommend running your RCA cables and hooking them up if you have an amp or not.. as it saves removing the headunit again later down the track..just keep some rubber or leccy tape over the ends as they are LIVE wires (outside is pos, inside is neg.. or other way round? *shrugs*)

im EXTREMLY happy with my JVC KW-AVX900

1 issue i came accross was it is a 5.1 channel unit.. so has 2 pairs of RCAs then a single center and subwoofer rca out.. but this is rectified with a 1->2 splitter OR a 1->2 RCA cable that the chap at JBhifi was directing me to prior to me asking if the splitter would be ok with the current RCAs i already had!

now the fun task of manufacturing the surround *hides*

and to hook up the antenna part for the TV (running wires up the A pillar to some stick on metal strips that go on the windscreen)

also for the DVD playback.. legally you need to have it run to the Handbrake
but i just earthed it out to the ground of the headunit.. works fine

well i got a 12" box. what sort of $$$ are we talking (remember im a povo uni student : ). and what are the amps?

just checked my speakers and they are only 40watt rms which is pretty girly, 220watt max

Still no joy with front splits on ext amp. I hooked the fronts up to the head unit's int amp and it's really quite good. I've asked the question over at eonon but if it turns out the unit is faulty I'll give it to my daughter and have a close look at your model JVC.

the cheap crappy aerpro adaptor plug 1 of the wires snapped off damn it so had to resolder it after i had got the unit IN lol

have you looked to make sure the amp isnt on HIGHPASS or the head unit for that matter??

as it may be sending only high freq to the amp/ speakers which get cut off by the crossover

I'd be leaning towards the high pass filter being on in the HU. If one half of the speaker combination works, then it can't be the RCAs. As the tweeters work from the amp, it could a HP filter switch on the amp, or a HP filter on the HU. Good luck finding it though!

Yeah thanks mate, I've ratted through the Alpine manual for inspiration but everything is good according to it.
