Default Next step for the ED

Hows it goin,

Ive come to the crossroads with my car. Its a manual I6 ED, with full Genie 2.5" exhaust system. Now originally, i wanted to turbo the car, but with saving for a house looming over my head, that looks very slim, so im thinking of squeezing as much as i can out of the motor i got. i have a little over 3 grand to spend, so i was thinking, should i jsut go for a wade/crow cam (preferablly crow as i can get them easlier) and stay with my exhaust system, or should i go and get a DEV3 kit and install that? or drop a v8 in (id prefer to stay manual)? or any other ideas?

Any input would be great
Trav

Stick with a six. For a $3k budget, stick with an atmo six. Have a gander in the e-series tech section of the Ford Sixes section for atmo setups ;)

Will the AU motor bolt up to my EDs manual gearbox? I want to stay manual, and dont want to have to buy another gearbox?

YEP!! i had an au engine in my EB with the manual trans. the two bottom bolts don't line up but don't worry about them they are not nessasary, I had a turbo on the Au engine and if it were going to run in to any trouble missing two bolts i would have found out. they only stablizer bolts.

the sump is different on the au's they are a cast sump. no biggie also to fit it in you need to get a angle grinder and grind off he casting ribs on the front of the sump to fit it in 5 min work!

would it be easier to grab an AU engine and put an EL sump on? or just easier to angle grind and not bolt up the bottom 2 bolts?

the el sum doesn't fit on the AU engine, it has to have the Au on it. it is really easy to fit it all in, and grind that stuff off and the problem bottom 2 bolts can be fixed by using a au bell housing from an manual au as it will bolt up to the t5 you have allready.

if you did put a v8 in i think the gains you would get is so minimal verses the cost of getting it done, as you will need to get an engineers report, change the loom, new ecu, lots of stuff needs to be done as you say you haven't got much $$ saty with the I6

How about selling it and getting a XR8? Much easier, just get a nice clean EB SXR8. I see no point in getting en ED unless you really like the lights, just dont prang the front.
