My grandad is looking at trading in his EL futura, but he wasnt offered very much for it. It has 107000km genuine. Only has a few scratches but other than that it is in pretty good condition. He has had it since it had 40000km.
So my question is... Any ideas what it would be worth??? |

Hard to say man, If you were going to buy one in private sale or car yard you would be looking at maybe, 6000-8500? Trade in is a different story, im not quite sure about that one :(

I was thinking of putting it to him that If I could get him another grand or two, maybe he could throw me a few hundred. So then just to clarify...
What do you think it would be worth if he sold it privately? I would think with only just over 100000km it would be higher than the average EL. I am not too far off nudging 100000km in my BA and its only 4yo. His is over 10yo. |

Yep, the age-old trick to not losing heaps of money on a car: DON'T TRADE IT IN. EL Futuras aren't as popular as they used to be. Gone are the glory days of looking at a parked EL Futura, noticing an XYGTHO park next to it, and then having your gaze settle back on the EL Futura.
Anyway, where I'm getting at is, your grandad would get a crap price for it no matter how mint it is. He might get a $2k offer as a trade-in, or he might be able to sell it for $4k privately, $6k with luck on his side. A mate of mine got offered $3k trade-in for his manual black VS SS. He took it, the nuffy. (But he bought a Territory : ) If I knew he was selling the VS at that price I would've gotten it instead of (or as well as : ) the EF! I've been recently looking through the Trading Post a lot until I came across my EF, and low-series EF-ELs were hovering around $3-5k depending on kms, RWC, etc. Why not buy this week's Trading post and look at the current asking prices for EF-ELs, as well as looking on the innernets (carsales, autotrader, etc) -Dave- |

Yeah I think he was offered $2000 for a trade. I think. It might have been less.
Yeah I was just about to fire up carpoint and drive etc to see what people are asking. |

Unfortunately these cars are becoming worthless quite quickly. I say around 4k. Yes you will see plenty advertised for far more, but these cars just sit in the classifieds for ever until the owner wakes up and sells for a realistic price.
Having said that, if you are patient enough, you may come across that one person who will give you 6k for it, but that could take 6 months.

I was offered $2k for trade in on my EL Futura. Ended up not trading it, keeping it for months, then selling it for $2k.
Unfortunately (I still have a soft spot for a smick EL) they aren't really worth anything any more.

i reckon u could probably get 5,000 for it privately if the right person comes along but for someone to pay that kinda scratch for it you'd wana throw in some new tires and give it a damn good polish and obviously a rwc
e-series are becoming pretty cheap nowdays theyve become pretty worthless over the last few years id hate to be the person trying to sell 1 nowdays but its good for people wanting to buy one you can get some damn cheap cars |
