Well i just picked up a K&N RE-0810 9in pod filter from americanauto's for $74.50. It's the same pod the G&D performance use in there $600 intake kits. Also has a 3in neck. Autobarn and repco wanted around $180 for the same item. Americanauto's seem very cheap with K&N stuff.
Going to fit it saturday inside the original airbox although I am planning to cut the front tray of the box to fit this big berther in snugly. Here is a pic of it next to a SAAS pod filter which is the standard pod filter size. |

Seriously mate, I bought this because i couldn't justify outlaying $600 for a G&D intake system when i should get similar results for about $90 when you include the silicon adaptor,45 degree bend and 1 hour of my time..
cheers..... Last edited by LTDHO; 07-07-2007 at 01:27 PM. Reason: deleted post removed. |

Use the small one, you'll notice a difference, your's being the bigger one, you'll notice the same difference as the small one.
That big one, waste of space in my opinion Last edited by LTDHO; 07-07-2007 at 01:23 PM. Reason: Post cleaned |

So i am pretty sure i will get some good results with this K&N pod, flows at a higher CFM and has more surface area than the standard panel filter. G&D performance wouldn't use them if they sucked. They R&D everything on the dyno, check out there website!!! and have a read..... Last edited by LTDHO; 07-07-2007 at 01:29 PM. |

isnt it a greater surface area for more air to flow through also? i've baan considering one of these style pods for an in box arrangement

well i plan to cut a hole in the bottom of the box to get air coming through the front bar (i have no lights in it) and getting one of those $30 intake pipes from autobarn (which i think are 3") and an EL rubber elbow to the t/b. it a mild intake mod and i dont expect the world from it.... i just thought with the extra air that the bigger pod would be more appropriate

Better off gettin a 3" mandrel bent pipe made up with a 3" silicone joiner to the TB. With a bit of work the pipe fits nicely into the back of the airbox lid and with the big pod hanging off the end of that and a decent amount of cool air getting in you should see some decent gains.

Had a few dramas installing this big berther in the box so i have just secured it with a pod bracket and lowered it in the airbox tray. Have ordered some heat shield material today from autobarn to fully enclose it next week.
http://www.aclperformance.com.au/prod_heatshield.htm After taking it for a long drive all i can say it is a TORQUE MONSTER. Power is up through the rev range. Bascially 3/4 throttle gets the same response as full throttle with the stock airbox. But the torque through low and mid revs is fu%ken awesome. The car just pulls, it really benefits the pacemakers and exhaust. Also fuel economy at instant on trip meter is averaging 1-2litres less than the stock airbox. I am one happy camper Post some more pics next week of the fully enclosed heat shield.. cheers Last edited by fairmont1998; 08-07-2007 at 10:46 AM. |

It's the first time someone has actually tried a pod filter that has more surface area than the stock panel filter and also being a K&N. Don't be so quick to do the lol..lol.. lol..thing I will post pics once completely finished, but i will have too say the gains i have already got, have far out weighed the performance gains i got from fitting a 2.5in sports exhaust. |

The one advantage I can see with such a massive surface area is it'd take much longer to get dirty enough to affect the airflow.
