Default LSD Housing

i was offered an LSD 3:45.1 for $150 for my car because at the moment i only have the stock 3:08.1 out of a normal falcon after the first diff went.

The only thing is i have been told that the housing has been bent a tiny bit but except for that it is fine...The only thing im wondering is it possible to get the housing straitened or how much would a new housing be?

thanks

They can be straightened, but it may be cheaper to whack the guts into your housing.

Sox, i recently came accross a 3.45 LSD that was in a car that had been hit from the front, and the diff was slightly bent inwards, causing the wheel to get to a point where it would recoil back at you, especially if you turned it in reverse.

Would the gears/LSD unit had been stuffed? Or could you still use the LSD and gears in another diff?

Without checking it's hard to know, though in most cases the center is ok.

we opened the center, what do you need to look for?

only thing we could notice was that it had blue silicon stuff around the backing plate (factory?), 3.45 gears, and the oil wasn't black, it was like power steering oil, redish.. Couldn't notice any metal in the oil..

It will need to be pulled right down to certain.
Things to look for is bearing damage, and cracks anywhere.
If it was bent badly, the center will need to be pulled down to see if the spider gears are damaged as the axles will put pressure on them if bent.

The pinion bearings and in some cases the pinion can be damaged to.

It really needs complete stripping and cleaning, and I would use new bearings in any case.
I would also machine the and re-shim the cones.

AFAIK 3.45 centres can't fit in a 3.08 housing.

Housings are all the same, it's just the carriers which are different.

as far as i knew, only the 2.77 carier ran a differnt of set and can not be used.. any other ratio from 2.92-4.11 runs the same ofset in the carrier.
