Default Help on Diff?

I'm looking into a rebuild on my differiential soon.

I've been quoted from a few places, the current place has said:
Brand new gears, brand new LSD, brand new bearings + fitting = $1400
or Second hand gears, brand new LSD, brand new bearings + fitting = $1200

3.73s are not offered with second hand gears. I am after 3.73s idealy. Or should I just settle for some second hand 3.45s?

What do you guys reckon? Is $1400 a good price? Diff Technics in NSW, charge about $1300 I believe for a similar setup.

It'll have to wait till after my exams, and after my stereo. But at this stage, hopefully late November

Cheers

Just paid the extra $200 & get what you want.
Ring around a few place & get a few more quotes.
But $1400 sounds about right.

I am running 3.45's now coming from 3.23 standard and the difference is not really enough. In a lwb car wagon like mine i was concerned that to do it properly i would need a two piece tailshaft with 3.9 gears. in a sedan i would take the punt and go 3.9 gears. it does mean you wouldn't want to do a lot of high speed out back cruising though! at 110km limits no probs

LG, you have never made a compromise on your car yet, dont do it now. Get the 3.73's (although I agree with Jonbays, 3.9's for sure) and never have that "maybe I should have..." feeling later on.

I looked into this before i got my diff done, and i found that for $1400 you probably wont get ALL brand new equipment, despite what they tell you. I found out what all the individual parts cost, and it cant be done for that cheap. I had mine build from scratch with brand new 3.73 gears, LSD unit and a re-race (brand new bearings) and it cost me just over $2k. But from what i know, that is how much you will need to be loong at to guarantee a completely brand new LSD. Talk to Bill at Northern Diffs in Epping, thats where i got mine done and i am more than happy with it.

I need to talk to the famous "Preston Autos and Diffs" and "Race Shift Automatics" again.

From, the going rate, all the parts from Diff Technics, cost around $1100 shipped to my door. LSD + Gears + Bearings... So I'd think that it should cost about $1400 fitted?

One of my best mates, is actually just starting work at a new Performance shop, which deal with diff's I believe. I might hold out, and get it done from him.

Cheers
