however i'm also interested in putting in an AU motor.
does anyone ahve any clue how much a mechanic would put a au xr6 hp motor in for? any help towards this subject would be great.

Shouldnt cost to much, not sure exactly on price, but you would need a long motor. Bit of grinding involved too.

Wrong forum mate. Theres an E-Series section just for these questions. You've been here for 18months so you should know better.

Ask wreckers and even auto electricians if the wiring is different they can do it as mechanics don't always like conversions.

a mechanic would charge heaps and tell you it isn't worth it. Just repair your current head maybe get it cleaned up and a new gasket, wallah good as new. Unless it has a billion KM's on it.

yeah just do the gasket, but if u really wanna do an au conversion, motor is like 700-900 bucks for a long motor depending where you get it, to fit it you need to grind the fins off on the front of the sump, fit your intake manifold and the bottom 2 bolts on your auto/manual bellhousing wont line up, thats it

thanks for that boys, it seems its gonna cost me a similar amount of money to get an au engine, plus a mate said he might be able to help me put it in.

Your mate know anything about retrofitting an AU engine into an ED?

Do you have a serpentine belt system? Will you run an EL ECU + AU BBM manifold, or use the ED intake manifold?

It's not as easy as just 'put it in'.

You didn't answer my questions..

Multi belt setup on an AU engine is far from desirable.

Good luck though.

its not that hard to do an au motor, but easier to get your motor redone.

Pulled out the records for my car, which had a rebuild under the previous owner. Labour costs for dropping in the same motor came in at $720 and the rebuild was $2700. This is for an EF XR6. Hope it helps.

AU engines are easy to fit... walk in the park...

its pretty straight forward. definitley run serpentine setup. get all the accessories included as well. all you manifolds bolt straight up, your dizzy fits. no re-wiring. you will need thermofans if you dont already and its a good excuse to put them in.

Does it lag engine performance tho coz I heard off my mate's, sister's, brothers, cousin that he had one that's biger then your's on his H3KT1C VL and it laged hard core But it made this fully S1K noise chik's allways used to look at him it was awsome down lygon.

yeah well i think it accually increases performance, cause of the extencinse use of flux capasitors.
