Default quick pod filter question.

ok im about to go into town so any replies would be great thanks!

i'm about to get a k&n pod filter, autobarn having a massive sale so its had $50 taken off the price!
last night i was talking to this guy and he's trying to tell me to **** of the snorkel and box and juck on the pod and just leave it there. he reakons there will be enough air flow from under the headlight! he wouldnt listen to what i've got to say.
another guy said dont get it as it'll drag to much dirt into the engine.

ok my question is for mounting it, i was thinking keeping the standard box and cut a hole in the side of it big enough for the pod to fit into so its as far in the box as possible. is this idea workable and will it be good for the car?

thanks
Braden

Good move sticking the pod inside the airbox then routing air to it....
you'll go backwards if you just stick the pod right on as itll suck hot air

exactly what i thought. this guy is a know all but he's also a bs artist! i'm thinking of ways to get extra air there too by cutting just under the box and run a pipe into the wheel arch, maybe put mesh over the end to stop large leaves getting in.

Ahh autobarn bendigo, many memories there.

I ran a pod filter in the engine bay with no real noticable difference, then moved it inside the guard which is another idea. Or you could make a shield up to stop the underbonnet heat etc, or as said put it into the airbox.

may as well just get a panel filter, just as good and less mucking around, be better off using a panel filter and cutting some holes in the front of the airbox with some pipes coming out of it.

the only advantage to exposed pods is the intake sound they give when they suck in all that hot air! if u MUST have a pod put it in the box and get more air into the box

i got the pod today, $49!! down from $99. ATM its pretty much just sitting there with the snorkel sitting over the top of it! i havent yet had time to muck around with it. hopefully i get time tomorrow for that. the intake sound is sweet!! not sure if i can notice any difference tho, i'm sure its there but not much, i wasnt expecting anything anyway.

so tomorrow (hopefully) i'll cut a hole large enough for the pod to fit through into the box. that stage 1 completed. then i want to run some piping from either A) from the wheel gaurd to the box, this will involve cutting the metal similar to EBmanual's EB. not too sure i want to do that tho. so plan B is to run a pipe from the box to just in front of the fan. not sure if this will work but my theory is that the fan will blow nice cold air through the pipe and into the box. if this way works it'll be much easier as i just have to run piping at the front of the motor.
any opinions on this?

i'm gonna cut a hole in the bottom section of the box and the pod will go through that. theres already a hole in this section which i'll use to run a pipe to the fan area which will catch cold air generated from the fan. if you put your hand in this section while the motor is running you'll see theres a fair bit of cold air blowing around. aim is to catch most of it and run it into the box.

well, just fitted it maself..and im proud haha, well about the hot air thing, i figured using the existing air pipe, it must do the job for a factory fitting, so its just the tube blowing down on the pod....sound good or not such a good idea????

my personal experience found alot more flow with a hybrid EA / XH airbox + K&N panel

hybrid34 your idea of using the snorkle is interesting but I don't see it being as
effective as a full flowing induction from the snorkle

the idea behind yours is great, you can also make a big type of heat shield to seperate that right off from the engine bay

wow [I]orsmeb yeah that is nice, but i dun think i wanna take out my light:P, yeah i thought of just putting that air flow from the original tube, cause it basicallyis teh same as the old air filter that used to be in it, as in same amount of air gettin in it, ...
I was thinkin of putting a box and all, but yeah have to get around how to do it and all ( as im a rookie at this),...

noise differnce? havn't noticed yet:P havn't driven it today as i just put it in, why is ther ea massive differnece with the tube hanging over the top?????
