Default Modern wagons?

Hey guys,

What happened to the Fairmont wagons? I looked at Ford's website, and I didn't realise the only wagons of the Falcon range are the XT and Futura :
Also, why aren't there any factory `performance wagons'? I've seen an XR6 wagon and it looked awesome, but it seems the only new sportswagons are the WRXs. I'm sure there'd be at least a few people who'd buy a BOSS-loaded wagon

Cheers

nost wagons sold today are some puffed up 4x4 version, dont see many house wives in small cars anymore, they all have prado's , ravs or crv's and the snobbier ones have X5's , ML's and porsche turbos

The Fairmont wagon was effectively replaced by the Territory.

Yeah, Ford couldn't justify building nice wagons, as they see them as just fleet sales. :(

The last Fairmont wagon was the AUIII. In the Ghia, it was the best wagon to date, could even get it with a V8. The Territory has replaced the high end Falcon wagons, and is doing it pretty well judging from the sales.

It's a shame.
Holden still sells a lot of Berlina wagons.

I believe the EB II was the last Ghia wagon. Also worth noting HSV stopped making wagons after the VT II I think, and the VY SS wagon was only a limited run. 4WD wagons are the future whether we like it or not.

Doh, yep, there was no Ghia wagon in the AU. Only the Fairmont. My bad.

Yeah Would be, but ONLY if they were rediesigned to look like the back end of the Terry (With the Control blade suspension), and waht are the chances of that happening? FOrd made a bad mistake keeping that shitty AU rear end on the wagons. They look like shit, and their resale and demise since territory shows just how popular that they are.

No point making a good looking car with a monstrous AU **** for a minority niche market. And dont tell me its not a small market cuz it was, they tried it with the EF XR6 and how long did it last (and that had a good looking rear). AFAIK the EF XR6 wagon didnt even come in a manual! (Correct me if wrong)

No good cheapening the Gorgeous BA XR pointy end with that Cart sprung **** (HA, the rear ends of them look like the front of those ole Messerschmit(?) 3 wheelers with the door on the front that the red cross bloodhound drove on the 'give blood' ad).

Done up AU-BA series Wagons are not good looking (I saw the thread on the BA GT one as well and ew). I donno what it is with wagons.... Not a fan unless thyre pre AU and have been done up tastefully (Neb brother, you have my nod matey ;) ).

Cheers,

I checked out of curiosity and both the ED and EF XR6 wagons were available as manual and auto. Another example of a short-lived wagon niche model - I have seen only a few.

The family wagon market died and moved on to the 4wd.

The sales rep fleet and taxi market continues for them but only in low spec el cheapo models.

AUIII fairmonts were the last decent ford wagon you could get.

V8 still an option and all the fruit.

I had a look at trading up to a BA but even the salesman admitted that it was a territory ghia or a futura wagon that was not as good as the fairmont wagon.

If you want a sporty wagon only Holden will help you with their SV8. You can still get V8 berlina wagons too. Its sad I don't want to go to a holden but V8 5.7L Berlina spec in a wagon with IRS.

Thanks Dan :P

To be honest I don't really like the AU-BA wagons that much either.. they just don't look that good. eb-ed wagons are my favourite by far. ef xr6 wagons are mad as well, and also el wagons aren't bad... the only thing that puts me off them a bit is its still the ed rear end basically and looks a little weird on the ef-el shape. I also really like vt commodore wagons.. they seem to have a nice shape and look mad on their asses with hsv bodykits.

Do the BA wagons (XT, Futura) have the 220 5.4 V8 option? I'd go for a Futura V8 wagon with a Ghia interior & custom rear interior that looks "Ghia".

My Favourite Wagon Of All Time has to be the Brady Bunch one from their '90s movie (poo brown 70s V8 behemoth!)

doh :( pity!

Also, jonbays: Seeing how Holden have brought out a couple of runs of SS wagons, I wouldn't be surprised if the same deal occurs close to the end of the VZ's life. So there's another option from the Red Corner (too bad Ford can't match it, unless CAPA buy a metric arseload of XR8s & Territories and morph them together)
