I just thought people may be intersted to know that the AU valve springs sit at an installed height of 41mm and when fully compressed to hard coil bind they are 27mm.The difference is 14mm according to my calculations. This means that the biggest cam to hit coil bind will be 551 inch lift.
Seeing that it gets solid coil bind at 551 lift then how big a cam can they handle safely? 540,530,520,510 500 lift?

Interesting stats and a good peice of info. make sure you take into account the rocker ratio as well
Cheers

I did.The rocker ratio on au's is 1.81. The coil bind was done in a vice.Installed height is from 2 reference manuals. I am thinking the dev 4 would like some stiffer springs or I may also supersize my cam. :

If we are talking valve lift and we are the stock AU springs will handle up to 530-540 lift but they will get float at high revs. Most modded cams will want to have springs with a higher seated pressure and pressure at full lift than stock and still avoid coil bind. Most mild cams with 480 lift will run with stock valve springs ok. when you get to 510 and above its worth revisiting more for the harder ramps these cams use to open up quick and seat fast.
