New XR6 - Am I missing something?? - Page 2

In the VW's (Golf anyway) they have one either side of the pedals. The purpose for the one on the right is to have your right foot at the same height as the brake pedal when you have the cruise control on. The natural tendency when having cruise on is to put you right foot under the pedals. Whilst weird initially, it is a good safety feature.

It was removed because it can result in foot injuries in big crashes. Jaguar do the same thing.

Don't know of its due to saftey reasons, probably more to do with cost reductions, but I do know that if your foot is on the footrest and you get T-boned the pedals can move across and rip your whole foot off

Just a thought drone - what is the damage to the driver in a T-Bone which has sufficient force to shift the pedals by that amount. It may be incosequential ie the driver's torso and head was crushed beyond recognition but his left foot survived - lucky we got a place for the toe tag. :Reverend:

A hit in the front quarter (between front wheel and door) at 100kmh is enough to push the pedals over to the footrest......i can send you the photo's if you like. Driver only had cuts and bruising, so I guess your theory ain't the best. Apparently cuts and bruises can heal, can you feet reattach themselves??

there is no foot rest because it is a safety issue..They have a collapsable pedal box in an accident which goes down to the left..thus possible to take foot off in accident..

I read that another reason Ford removed the footrest was because they also can cause knee injuries.
First time I drove the BA and the Territory I didnt even notice the footrest missing, the floor is flat and agled in the spot where the footrest wouldve been.
No way is it a cost cutting measure.

I thought that I was missing the foot rest as well. But I am quite used to it. But when I get into my wifes Fiesta my feet get very confused.....

I just told you why it was removed, because it can result in lower leg injuries. This was picked up during numerous crash tests. Can I be any more clearer. The slight cost reduction is just an extra incentive to do it. Two birds with one stone. Do you think Jaguar would remove it just to save 5 bucks.

Maybe they could put it toward quality control??

Obviously the GT-P doesn't have one and I don't miss it at all. The missus Bora has one on either side (as descibed in the Golf's) and they get little use from me too.

I was told by a person who does driver training, that the foot rest is eesntial in good driving practices. It is very close to the cars central pivot point, and you can feel everything the car is doing through it. I went on the skidpan with and then without, and it makes a hell of a difference.

i dnt even use the foot rest, i drive with my left leg bent at the knee,not that its safe, but for long trips i find it more comfortable that way. Also i noticed with my XR6 the brake & accelerator pedal seem so close compared to other cars i've driven. I go to accelerate and clip the brake as well, or i got to accelerate and clips the kick panel. Anyone else notice this??

It is a safety concern - Fords financial safety.

For long trips the footrests are a must and for a tall bastard like me, NOT having them is a right pr*ck when you're faced with the joyful stretches of the Hume Highway (Robbery). It's yet another one of these things that you don't realise how much you miss it until you don't have it.

Ah well, I'm sure Ford and their apologists will come up with at least 8 further reasons for not including them in the B-series. You go team!
