The car has to be on either ON position, or the car has to be started.

You'll hear the pin release.

If its not working, there's a little square plastic piece on the right that you should be able to remove to disengage the pin.

And here I was, thinking it was going to be a real problem like the auto transmission had blown up. Maaaaaate, foot on the brake, THEN select a gear. Repeat after me

(It's not old school, either... it's how you're supposed to drive, whether it's 2007 or 1957!)

But who on earth would put a car into R or D without a foot on the brake anyway (well, except for Mixo, I guess ;))

Seriously? I was always taught to be holding the brake when you put the car into R, for example, then lightly ease off the brake and start reversing. Less stress on the gear and, more importantly, the car just doesn't start rolling away on you, which is exaccerbated if you're on any sort of slope. Everyone I observe driving does it, too. Horses for courses, I guess.

stops kids from taking it out of park while they play. I believe this is in the Euro Safety rating ranking, you dont get 4 stars with out it....something like that.
