Default Dyno Runs

Does any body know if my car will hit the speed limiter on the dyno, cause i am going to dyno it soon and don't want it stopping?

Its a S1 Manual forte with 3.73's

Depending on your tyre hight it will hit right on the redline (5500rpm) give or take 100kph.

5500rpm should be approx 182kph in 4th.. so it will be close.
Most likely they would have backed off by then anyhow as the engine wont be making power at that level in most cases.

It should be
Auto in 3rd
Manual in 4th

On the odd occasion, if the auto has short diff gears, they may do it in 2nd as the limiter may be hit as early as 150kph of real road speed rather than 180. Its best to be done in 3rd though as its a 1:00 ratio like a manuals 4th.

When i had the Chiptorque item fitted they tuned it in 2nd? all the other runs i have done have been in third.

Car is getting Dyno tuned tomorrow and it does hit limiter at 180.

i had my wifes car dynoed it wound out to 192kmh and on the street it cuts out at 180. But be careful you au tailshaft is a 1 piece tailshaft and anything over 190 the tailshaft can snap and will take your gearbox and diff with it. This is the reason the au 6cyl have speed limiters in the first place. If you do a search on these forums you should be able to locate a photo of one that snapped on the dyno.

Not all of them.. the XR6's were alloy and basically identical to the XR8 ones.

when we do a power run on the dyno, we set our load limit to 40 (tuning is set to 100 using 3rd-or D if no 3rd-in auto or 4th in manual) autos are in 2nd gear (i havent done a manual as yet, but would assume 2nd or 3rd would be used). your more likely to hit the rev limiter then the speed limiter by the end of the run. The low gear provides the most power. i think its harder to do a high gear run, to simulate real driving, as the auto will kick down to far and you would and up in 2nd anyway and come close to blowing the motor. i havent tried this, just thinking thats what would happen from what i have found when doing WOT during tuning

When i got my run up it was run in 4th, it hit the speed limiter, and that has the 3.23 diff in it.
So if you've got 3.73's in it it'll hit the limiter.

Cheers

Mine, a 5 speed with 3.7 diff gears.. did the dyno run in 4th, power started tapering off at 170km/h dyno run ended between 180 and 185.. but I dont have a speed limiter. And that was up at 5850 or so rpm.

The last dyno run i did after fitting the exhaust, with 3.73's, it hit the speed limiter in 3rd (Auto) at the end of the run. I just got the limiter bumped up to 200km/h to compensate for this with the flash tuner.

so looks like i need to adjust the jaycar speedo corrector a couple percent so i can rev out all of 4th. but i will ask the guys who are tuning it, if there will be any difference in the tune if done in 3rd or 4th.
i hope the tailshaft will hold up, ive seen my brothers car go to about 210 cause we were waiting for the limiter but remebered the while running on gas the ecu can't cut fuel to cut power.......opps.
