Default Wagga Wagga...

GREATEST COUNTRY TOWN IN AUSTRALIA OR WHAT??!!!

I just thought I'd let the people of FF know of my experience of Wagga Wagga over the long weekend. It was my 19th birthday on Sunday so as a bit of a treat me and a bunch of mates decided to take a road trip to somewhere crazy in Australia for shits and giggles over the long weekend..after looking closely at a map of Australia we came to the conclusion that Wagga Wagga is the only option for our road trip!

Now expecting a dirt farm and joking about how rubbish this town is going to be the whole 11 hour drive I can now officially say that Wagga Wagga is my favorite place to live/holiday/whatever in Australia.

The relaxed atmosphere, the people, the shops, the food..everything about the town makes it such an awesome place, it is easily the number one pick for my retirement in 10-20 years (hopefully anyway!)

I just thought I'd see if anyone from FF who obviously doesn't live there has been to the town and if yes what they thought of it. Of course people who live there give your opinions and thoughts on the awesome place if you want to!!

P.S: Quick question to residents of Wagga Wagga, why are there so many bald headed people? Like shaved heads wearing suits and what not?

Good to hear you enjoyed the place, but why not post up before you left and you could of met some of the people from here, we dont bite!

The bald headed people would be people from the RAAF and army bases. See them all the time here. Usually walk around in groups with each other.

It was a very very sudden thing..We Organised this Thursday night and left Friday morning! haha

However, I will be back up there in 6 weeks for a longer holiday this time..1-2 weeks! Love the place and can't get enough of it!

And ohh ok..I was wondering what they were! Are there normally that many around or was this rare because of the long weekend? And damn did they have some $$ to spend..incredible!

for the Kapooka recruits (and also the 1RTU at RAAF Wagga) they basically don't get to spend any money during training except on the few free days they get. As the army recruits are in for 80 days and get 4 days of leave during that time, they will have quite a bit saved. http://www.army.gov.au/artc/media/80DayProg.pdf

When the new army recruits get to Kapooka they don't get let out again for a while, hence the money burning a hole in the pocket phenomenon. I am sure the sunglasses shops in Wagga get 50% of their income from the recruits.. Wagga is a nice place, I spent 10 years there, and am tempted to go back.

Free plug for the Wagga AFD while everyone is saying how good wagga is.. all the info for the weekend can be found HERE and would be a good opportunity for people who haven't been here before to have a look around, go for a cruise and meet some new people.

studied/lived there for 5 years, worked out well for me as it avoided the sydney/melbourne uni option. did notice more "riff raff" towards the end of my stint there, and have only returned a couple of times since having my EH broken into, with a failed attempt to steal the car (stuffed alternator being its saving grace), however didnt stop the scum from taking 2 lowriders, cd player, sub, amp and misc goods from the car, then proceeding to graffiti the whole car. very sour taste and perception of the town ever since. if that didnt occur, id say its a top town
