Sorry BA is better than an AU.
Have to drive a AU1 work ute everyday.
Weazy 4ltr engine with the poor selecting powess of the AU BTR four speed.
Its a pleasure to get back into my BA and go for a drive.

Bias maybe... but i used to own an AU, it was slow, shocking brakes, UGLY even after i spent a heap on it with bodykit and wheels, interior makeover. After buying my first BA, i couldn't believe i was driving around in the Au for so long thinking it was a nice car.
Plus, you will be driving around in something relatively new, instead of driving around in something that is just far too out dated now.
Hope i can sway your decision some what.

yeah compare a base model AU with a Sports BA! Next we'll be comparing the VE Calias with a Bugatti Vayron!

It's ok if you like the AU shape, to me they are really horrible compared to a BF, yeah, fair enough they share the same doors, but thats where it ends.

I am sure if you put a poll up on which FORD in recent history is the most un appealing, i could tell you it would be a close race between the early E series and AU series shapes.

that being said, I would NOT kick a T3 out of my garage, that is the ONLY AU that i would happily drive.

Au all the way... The Ba/BF sedans have unlimited rear suspension problems with the outer control arm bushes wearing out constantly and that bush that supports the diff always collapsing causing knocks under acceleration. You can't replace this bush in the BF because it is manufactured as part of the subframe now, so you buy a complete subframe $$$$. The subframe also hits on the petrol tank if the left rear wheel is backed into the kerb when parking too often. The handbrake is also a problem, often noisy and fiddly to adjust, held to the backing plate with flimsy springs instead of the simple single clip on au.
The AU had none of these issues.
The BTR trans in the BA/bf has thinner clutches and bands that wear out quicker. The solution? Upgrade to AU internals.
The dash on the BA/BF is prettier, but is totally electronic nightmare when it fails with the BEM and HIM modules failing regularily.
The engine and styling is the best part of the BA/BF, but you have to think that the engineers of this car were being hammered by accountants to make it cheap. Because thats what it is.
I'm suprised it didn't send Ford oz broke with warranty claims!
I hope Fg is better!

BA mate.. Parents own a BA, i own a AU, hard to explain but they just feel right. Mine is an AU1 but a AU3 XR6 would be tempting instead of a BA..
XR6 Turbo all the way mate.
Once you experience turbo you will never go back.
*another who is addicted to turbo lol*
