Default resetting the computer

My mechanic did some work and obviously the computer must have been reset, since I had to put the unlock code back in the radio.

My computer was intially giving be crappy readings like 7km/hr for average speed and 12.7 litres/100 km etc. After a long drive the computer settings look ok.Obviously the computer learnt the correct settings.

My question is a petrol smell after I put some petrol in the car just after I got it back from the mechanic, have anything to do with the computer learning settings????

My only thought is that it may have been running a little rich before the computer "re-learnt" the settings, and this may have created a change in exhaust fumes
